It had been 2 months since Neil married Tejaswini to fulfil a dying Mohit Chavan’s wish. Neil Pradhan, a man who was the epitome of a family man and had long stopped feeling anything, didn't even realise when Tejaswini had come into his life and stirred him like a storm. Neil didn't know that his innocent wish of wanting Tejaswini would be fulfilled but at the cost of his hurt mother. Since the day Neil and Tejaswini had gotten married, Neil had vowed to be Tejaswini’s shadow and never let the sadness she had when her father died engulf her. However one thing that no one could’ve ever prepared Neil for was coming right into his face and he didn't know what to do. Tejaswini Neil Pradhan, the name that felt like honey to his tongue was the most bitter thing he would have thought of now when he overheard Tejaswini and Rituraj talking.

“You used my brother to get me right?”Rituraj spoke to Tejaswini with venom in his mouth, “No Rituraj, trust me I don't even like him. It was baba who forced me into getting married to him. I still love you”

“I don't even like him”, Neil always knew he wasn’t a favourite among girls like Rituraj was. No one would have willingly wanted to be tied to him if they were given a choice to choose between him and Ritu. But damn!! It did hurt him too much. Getting to know that the person he liked so much had feelings for his cousin. “Aparajita”, the name he had given to Tejaswini and the feelings behind it, was something only Neil could understand. His Aparajita didn't like him, but what was worse was she Liked his cousin and in her eyes was Forced to marry him.

Neil’s world came crashing down when he had overheard this conversation. Even leaving music forever to pursue MBBS didn't hurt him as much as knowing Tejaswini liked Rituraj. No surgery or operation could have prepared Neil for the pain of a heartbreak. Knowing someone doesn't like you could never hurt as hearing them say that out loud to someone else did. Neil had long ago accepted that Rituraj was better than him at almost all the things and he would always let him go away with that. But this time he couldn’t. Not when his love was at stake. Not when Tejaswini was at stake. Neil knew Tejaswini would never like him but she was his responsibility and he could not let Tejaswini be with Ritu not because it would be inappropriate but because Ritu never liked Tejaswini the way Neil did and this time Neil knew he had to fight for the thing that really mattered to him and not let it slip away like he did with Music.

This is quite interesting. Teju doesn't hate Ruturaj even after marrying Neil and Neil knows that Teju loved Rutu. I'm wondering how Neil would react. Great going, Riddhi 👍

Chapter 2

It was well past midnight and Tejaswini was sleeping on the bed while Neil was on the couch in their room, a habit they had developed within days of marriage as Neil didnt want Tejaswini to feel even a bit uncomfortable. The surrounding was peaceful unlike the chaos going on in Neil’s heart and mind. Tejaswini wasn’t even aware of the storm she had caused in Neil’s life but this time she didn't know that this storm would consume her as well. Neil couldn’t sleep because as soon as he tried to close his eyes the truth of his marriage would flash in front of him. This was a “forced marriage” Neil would hear Tejaswini say that often but his heart which had hopelessly fallen for Tejaswini believed that he could make it work. “He could make it work”, that's what he did all these years, he changed himself to survive the circumstance because his introverted nature believed it was better to surrender to the circumstance than to confront it. What he did not know was that it takes two people to make a marriage work and Tejaswini was never a part of it. Neil was battling between his heart and mind whether he should confront Tejaswini or not but then he realised confronting Tejaswini would make it worse if not better. Because listening from your wife that she doesnt like you but your cousin isn’t something you are ever prepared for. So Neil did what he could do the best and that was to withdraw himself because now he knew the more time he tried making this marriage work the more it would consume him. Sitting on the couch, nothing made him feel better so he went to his favourite place in the Pradhan house and that was the small garden beside the living room where Alok chacha would complete his cotton deals. Neil slowly went downstairs and sat in the garden.

“Neil”, a voice called him from behind and when he turned it was his elder sister Manjari.

“Itni raat ko yahan kya kar rha hai?”, she asked with concern in her eyes. “Kaaye nhi tai, bas neend nhi aa rhi thi toh socha yahan aake baith jaaun, ek alag sa sukoon hai yahan”. He replied trying to hide the turmoil in his married life. “Woh toh hai, jab zindagi mein ashanti ho toh insaan bahar shaanti dhundhta hai. Ek baat bta Neil tu khush toh hai na?” This question was enough to break the dam residing in Neil’s heart. No one had asked him this after he had married Tejaswini and while he dealt with the turmoil alone. “Kya bolun tai? Khush toh hona chahta hun, kyunki ek cheez thi jo maine itni shiddat se maangi thi aur shiv ji ne mujhe de bhi di. Lekin usko paane ke baad bhi aisa lag rha hai ki main sab kuchh haar chuka hun. Aisa lag rha hai ki jiss cheez pe mera haq hai nahi tha woh mil gyi hai mujhe. Khushi ki jagah guilty feel ho rha hai kisi aur ki cheez leke.

“Teri Aparajita tujhese pyaar nhi karti hai?”, “Pyaar toh chhodo tai woh toh meri taraf dekhna bhi nhi chahti hai. Mujhe lagta tha ki shaadi ke baad pyaar toh ho hi jaata hoga, lekin rutu sahi kehta tha shaadi se pehle pyaar ho toh hi shaadi sambhalti hai”. “Ekdum ved zhaale tu, Rituraj ki baat ko dil se laga ke baith gya hai? Jiska khudka dil kabhi yahan toh kabhi wahan laga rehta hai?

“Uska dil toh kabhi bhi kahin bhi lag jaata hai tai, lekin meri biwi ka tu uspe laga hua hai na.”

“Kya kehna chahta hai tu Neil?”, “Yahi kehna chahta hun tai ki jaisa humesha hota hai wahi hua hai iss baar, jaise humesha ladkiyon ki preference rituraj rehta hai aaj bhi wahi hai aur main bas background mein hun aur mujhe iss cheez se kabhi problem bhi nhi hui hai. Lekin aaj pehli baar main dil se chahta hun ki aparajita mujhe apnaaye sirf uske husband ke taur pe nhi lekin as a person jisse woh pyaar karti hai.”

Manjari looked at Neil astonished and couldnt believe that her baby brother who did everything as per the wishes of the elders wanted something this badly for himself and she had promised herself that she would make it happen and stand up for Neil and not let him down like she did when the elders forced neil to give up singing.

“Tujhe pta hai na neil ki pyaar force nhi kar sakte hain.”, “Haan tai, main apna pyaar tejaswini pe force karunga bhi nhi bas usse utna pyaar dunga ki rituraj ka pyaar uske liye kam pad jaaye”.

And with that resolve, the dawn broke and Neil knew he would do anything for his love even if it meant fighting against anyone for it.

Aww. Manjari-Neil dynamic. Teju Neil ki taraf dekhti bhi nahi, but Neil still want to make his marriage work. Par Rutu bhi same ghar me hi hai. Ab Neil kya karega?
