In Do Patti, for example, her performance is getting a lot of praise, even though the movie itself didn’t do well.

The problem wasn’t with Kriti’s performance in TBMAUJ..its with her role and genre of the movie. Same can be said about Kajol or Preity(hot topic on the forum rn). Both r acknowledged as good and successful actors but not put in that ‘great’ slot coz they did more of regular run of the mill roles. Doesn’t matter that they also excelled in movies like Dushman and Sangharsh. Or say a Rekha wouldn’t be slotted with Smita Patil or Shabana Azmi coz she didn’t act much in parallel Cinema. Rekha the actor would still be talked about only for Umraojaan.

I don’t think there was anything wrong with her performance, maybe she was actually really good. I haven’t seen the movie yet, but the thing is, no one really mentioned her performance as such. Normally, good performances get discussed or there’s unanimous praise from the critics. I haven’t seen a single thread about her performance, either here or on Reddit. The only thing people talked about was whether the movie was a hit or a semi-hit. Now, all of a sudden, people are hyping up her performance like it’s Barfi or Kahani, which is kind of funny.

Without even watching the film, you're making a judgment based on the number of threads on IF or Reedit (or the lack of) which are not the exact yardsticks to judge a film or a performance. With a preconceived notion like that, you are not going to like the film anyways even if you watch it now.

Btw I remember reading many threads and critical reviews regarding the film and Kriti's performance. It was nothing oscar-worthy but she was quite good in the film. She looked very very gorgeous too. Her make-up artist really did a great job.

The love for the film was not unanimous, because there is always a section not liking something in a film. I don't recall the last time a film that was universally loved anyways

Objectively, what I observed about TBMUJ, as a film, that it was well-recieved by the the masses, particularly the younger crowd. It is also one of those few films in recent times that have been picked-up by kids, thanks to its title track playing at every function/birthday party since the beginning of the year. I see the film becoming a modern classic in few years.

Contrary to your impression, I found - after having watched the movie - in many reviews I read Kriti's performance positively acknowledged. I agree that it isn't "oscar-worthy", but (like in Milli) something that made her stand out.

Apart from this...What I found interesting in comparison to Alia in Jigra: Kriti had to play a robot and gave an emotionally relatable performance... Alia had to play a character whose emotional focus was her brother but she didn't emote this (until the end) giving (or had to give?) a rather 'robotic' performance (which - to me - wasn't relatable, although designed as a trait of her character).

This is the second time you're missing the point of my post. I’ll respond this time, but not again, so do yourself a favor and learn to read properly. We’re not talking about personal opinions on whether the performance was good or not. What we’re discussing is the sudden hype around Kriti's performance when no one talked about it for months, not even when the movie was released. If it had received consistent praise from critics or been a topic of ongoing discussion here on the forum, it would make sense that she deserves the recognition. But this sudden hype just feels off and honestly kind of amusing.

Except it is not sudden. A simple Google or YouTube search might be helpful in this case. No one talks about the possibility of getting a awards right at the beginning of the year; because people wait towards the end of the year to analyze what performances worked and what didn't during the year.

Today I learnt that it's not a "personal opinion" when someone :-

1) Does not watch the film.

2) Thinks a performance is bad because (according to them) it is not discussed on IF and Reedit enough?

3) Thinks it's a "suddenly" amusing when people analyze thr performances of the year during last 2 months, for the FF next year.

And still it's me who missed the point and I do not know how to read?

LMAO. I can't even.smiley36 Sorry, I cared to reply earlier. (I was anyways ot expecting a response on my earlier post, and certainly not on this one.)

Haha, thank you for sharing this. I recall reading other critical reviews also which were good too.

I bet a section of the audience is just never happy and everything is overhyped according to them because it doesn't suit their agendas.
