Thanksgiving is a day to commemorate gratitude, togetherness, reflection and peace. While it has become an holiday throughout the years, Thanksgiving finds it’s roots deep down in the History, back in 1621.
At that time, Pilgrims and the Wampanoag people shared a grand and festive banquet in Plymouth, Massachussets. This unique moment of community and togetherness came after a very challenging year when Pilgrims had to live and struggle in an unknown land. The Chief of the Wampanoag people, Massasoit, helped them by teaching the agricultural techniques, thus, forming an alliance.
In 1863, The President of the United States Abraham Lincoln declared it to be a national holiday. Thanksgiving goes beyond that event as during The Civil War, he called on Americans to express gratitude and seek for unity despite the conflicts.
Thanksgiving is a day to celebrate by giving thanks as in reflecting on the blessings of the past year and be grateful for what we have. Families gather together along with different communities in order to spend beautiful time and strengthen bondings. It also inspires to show kindness to the loved ones and needy ones.
People in the United States and Canada celebrate the holiday with big feasts.
Turkey, stuffing, cranberry sauce and pumpkin pie have become the stars of the table showing abundance and gratitude.
Many parades are held around the countries such as The Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade, which puts amazzing floats and performances.
Sports have also become an integral part of the celebration, where people watch or play to football, adding a modern touch to the classic rituals. Families and friends reflect on what they’re thankful for.
The message of the holiday slightly changed though, adding more complexity and effort of understanding the History. While it is important to remember the cooperation between two kind of different people, it also emphasizes the hard challenges natives had to face throughout the story of the events.
Thanksgiving is a celebration that goes beyond cultures and boundaries. Different origins and nationalities come together to share a joyful moment. It reminds us to carry the spirit of thankfulness throughout the whole year. It has to be a mindset and an honour to give thanks and giving it back.
The Crazy Creatives wishes you and your loved ones a very happy Thanksgiving Day.
May you spend amazing moments of joy and togetherness.
