If it's the role that Richa Chadha played, Mahira wouldn't have been a bad pick. Sanjeeda Sheikh is an amazing dancer, so I doubt he was considering her for that role. The new actor is too young, and having Mahira play Manisha Koirala's daughter would've been kinda awkward. Plus, Manisha Koirala herself is a bit older than Mahira, so I don't think that's the role. That leaves Sonakshi. But Sonakshi totally owned Fareedan, I can't picture anyone else playing that role, especially not Mahira.

To me, it seems very insensitive to the actual cast...and anyways, it is also a question of budget.

May be he wanted Mahira in Sharmin’s character.

I haven't bothered to watch the show since I don't care for Bhansali's post-DP/RS works and the cast doesn't interest me.

I probably would have been more tempted to watch had he gone with the casting of these three actors.
