Book Title and Author: The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F-ck - Mark Manson (currently reading)

Genre: Self-help book

Why you liked it & why you're recommending it:

The book is written in a straightforward and impactful manner, and one of the main reasons I have been enjoying reading it is its blatant honesty. Mason's approach is candid and unapologetic. He has incorporated practical insights into life and has relentlessly emphasized acceptance. The book outlines life's imperfections and limitations and how we need to reanalyze the aspects we tend to give more attention to. There's an interesting take on affirmations as well that I found both, hilarious and thought-provoking. Overall, I am enjoying this book, and recommend it to anyone who enjoys questioning life as it is.

Share quotes from the book if you have any:

"You can’t be an important and life-changing presence for some people without also being a joke and an embarrassment to others."

"Who you are is defined by what you’re willing to struggle for."

"We suffer for the simple reason that suffering is biologically useful. It is nature’s preferred agent for inspiring change."

(I will add more after I finish the book)

Your personal Star rating out of 5 (if you wish to): So far it is a good 4.5/5.

Trigger warnings (if any): You may get put off by the extensive use of the "F" word, but once you get past it, the book is pretty good for self-reflection.

Book Title and Author: Out on a Limb by Hannah Bonam-Young

Genre: M/F Contemporary Romance

Why you liked it & why you're recommending it: I'd read this a while ago but I remember really enjoying it. Wonderful disability rep! Win is short limbed and Bo is a cancer survivor. I usually dislike the pregnancy trope but this one is so well-written and Bo is such a wonderfully supportive MMC plus an all-round wonderful human. And so is Win. You can't help but root for them to be together and that is what I look for in a Romance.

Star Rating: I think I'd given it a 5. No notes. One of the best books I read last year.

Book Title and Author: The Atlas Six (The Atlas #1) by Olivie Blake

Genre: fantasy (in a dark academia setting)

Why you liked it & why you're recommending it:

I will never get over the fact that it took me four months to read this. I loved this book so much, it’s easily an all-time favourite, but this is a pretty dense fantasy and I didn’t anticipate needing to read this book bit by bit instead of in one sitting. Academia in fantasy is definitely my new favourite, weirdly specific, sub-genre and I can’t tell if I’m excited or nervous to read more of it because I don’t know if I can handle another four-month-long read.

One of my first observations about this book was literally that it was written in a textbook font made for ants. On a more serious note, the way that science and magic were combined in this world is so interesting. We’ll be discussing scientific or philosophical concepts and then every 50 pages or so - mermaids. It’s so deeply unserious and yet the writing is just so fantastic, Olivie Blake deserves a lot more praise for her work.

How would I describe this book? An unhinged, traumatized and horny-as-shit found family/cult does science magic and tries to justify murder. (we should have a letterboxd for books where I can just post that and go)

Share quotes from the book if you have...

“Knowledge is carnage.”

“they were binary stars, trapped in each other’s gravitational field and easily diminished without the other’s opposing force” - pg. 147 (Libby and Nico are the greatest academic rivals-to-lovers who are also twin flames!)

“But he could feel the triumph radiating from her; it was sickening and putrid, rancid and rotting. She was overripe with it, devolving to decay. She was deadness taking root in fertile soil, resurrecting in the abundance of his loss.” - pg. 236 (oh you have no idea what I would give to be able to write like this)

“Yes, Tristan could see things other people could not, but the trouble was that he didn’t believe his own eyes when he saw them. The child told routinely of his worthlessness was now a man bereft of fantasy, lacking the inventiveness to give him a broader scope. Ironically, it was his own nature that crippled him most.” - pg. 250

“Trust, once dead, cannot be resurrected.” - pg. 270

“You need me to hurt you so that you can finally learn the difference between torture and love.” - pg. 307 (that entire scene was just so f*cked up)

“You’re a fire hazard, Rhodes. So stop apologizing for the damage and just let the f*cker burn.” - pg. 315

“because he was perpetually safe and she was eternally not” - pg. 354 (the most heartbreaking line from the book, and there were a lot of those)

Your personal Star rating out of 5 (if you wish to): 5.25

Trigger warnings (if any): I personally can't think of any, but definitely search them up to be on the safe side!

Book Title and Author: The Fault in Our Stars by John Green

Genre: Young Adult / Contemporary Fiction

Why you liked it & why you're recommending it:
I loved The Fault in Our Stars for its raw, honest portrayal of love and life in the face of illness. John Green’s writing is both heartbreaking and beautiful, capturing the essence of teenage emotions and the struggles of living with cancer. The characters, Hazel and Augustus, are so relatable and their journey is profoundly moving. I recommend it to anyone looking for a heartfelt story that explores love, loss, and the importance of living fully.

Share quotes from the book if you have:

“I’m in love with you, and I know that love is just a shout into the void, and that oblivion is inevitable.”

“The world is not a wish-granting factory.”

Your personal Star rating out of 5 (if you wish to):
5/5

Trigger warnings (if any):
Themes of illness, death, and grief.

The Mindf*ck Series: Amazon.co.uk: Abby, S.T.: 9781091074699: Books

Book Title and Author: Mindf**k Series by ST Abby

Genre: Dark romance, thriller, crime, revenge

Why you liked it & why you're recommending it:

So I am currently re-reading this and think it is an underrated book that not many have discovered yet. It is a 5 part series of short books all following one another. The story revolves around a female character righting the wrongs that was done to her.

The writing and plot was superbly written. The female character especially. I loved Lana. She is so strong and beautifully written character.

The plot - She's a serial killer and he's an FBI agent investigating her case/kills and trying to track her down.

At the same time, they're falling in love.

This book just ticked off so many things for me and I devoured it the first time. And now on my re-read as well.

Share quotes from the book if you have any:

Some of my favourite quotes that had me smiling and even smirk on occasion, I have so many but can't put everything on here smiley37 Highly highly recommend you read this series. Each book is around 200 pages.

He came into this alley as the predator. he’ll die as the prey.

If you ever want help feeling alive, call me. I could use some life as well.

“Sometimes people don’t find justice. Sometimes they have to take it.”

“The monsters in here can’t compare to the monster I am"

“A serial killer sharing a house with a homicide detective and a FBI agent. Life doesn’t get more complicated than this.”

“Why is there a gun hidden in my bathroom? Have you ever seen a horror film? The girl always gets stabbed in the shower. Or she runs into the bathroom and locks the door, but has no way to defend herself when the psycho killer breaks in.”

“Logan is taunting. Duke is arrogant. And I’m worried there’s about to be a sword fight in my living room. And not with actual swords.”

“I’m just a girl in love with a man who’s destined to hate me when he learns the truth. And it’s devastatingly tragic; more so than any Shakespearian play ever was.”

“I have psychopathic tendencies but I'm not a psychopath”

Your personal Star rating out of 5 (if you wish to):

5 Stars! I would give so much more.

Trigger warnings (if any): You can find the full list on goodreads of the trigger warnings. not all are graphic as some are mentions, but here are some of the triggers: Psychological Trauma, Murder, Death, Violence, SA against women, abuse against children, kidnapping, torture, revenge

I can't share 5 star recommendations because I give 5 stars very rarely. smiley36 If I like a book extremely, I give that book 4.5 stars.
