That is what my doubt too. They are not completely following their original show too. Though Ani has confessed, Janak and audience too never really understood if he needs to break up with Arshi. We also get a feeling that he wants Janak to be in front of him but not as wife. The makers have chosen a contrived way of story telling with lot of inconsistencies, incoherence and randomness in order to increase the drama quotient and to stretch the story.
