Jhanak treats Anirudha as God because she owes her entire existence to Her Husband Anirudha Bose

Anirudha has repeatedly saved stranger Jhanak's life and most importantly her dignity even at the risk of getting killed and destroyed his well settled life

And then He went against his own family, put all his relations at stake and made Jhanak's career against all odds even when she herself wasn't willing to do so

The reason Jhanak puts Anirudha at highest pedestal and gives him even more Importance than her dancing dream or even justice for her mother is that Anirudha walked into her life and held her hand when everyone else walked out of her life leaving her hand out of weakness or selfish reasons be it her mother or her so called friend Rahul

What all Anirudha did for Jhanak, Nobody even thought of doing it for her

Getting Anirudha's love is the only dream which Jhanak Has and not being able to perform the duties of his wife is the biggest regret she has

If she gets husband Anirudha's love she can bear all kinds of pains but if she doesn't gets Ani's love even happiness of entire world also won't be enough for her to have willingness to live, she will die without Anirudha

For Jhanak Anirudha is not just her husband but also her protector and mentor who has always saved her and provided her proper guidance

Most Importantly Anirudha has done all this selflessly- he neither got anything from Jhanak in return, nor did he ever ask or intends to ask anything from her and Jhanak very well acknowledges that

Jhanak touches Anirudha's feet to show the love, respect, admiration and gratitude she has in her heart for her husband

Anirudha is truly Pati Parmeshwar for Jhanak

One needs to understand the characterisation of Jhanak to know where she is coming from, what kind of nature she has, what are her priorities in life, what exactly she dreams of achieving in her life

True enough.

Went Jhanak world crashed, Anirudh immediately lend his hand to her without thinking twice, eventhough at that time he himself was unsure whether he should help or not. While others put their family first, Ani put Jhanak as his priority. He became the root in her live. As the tree of love grows(their feeling), of cos there will be few leaves that did not grow fine(their bad moment, bad words, jhagda), but many grows succesfully.

Even without feeling for Ani, Ani is still someone Jhanak will hold high upon.

Bold 2 - I think touching some one’s feet , is an extremely personal feeling and space, that transcends the boundaries of right and wrong.

And it is about perspective,

I could look at it as a wife falling at her husband’s feet or

A woman touching a man’s feet and adjudicate it to being servile or

A person showing complete reverence to another person for reasons best known and felt by him/her.

it could be a musician bowing down time and again out of reverence to his/her Guru or

In this case Jhanak who considers Ani to be her God and places him at the highest pedestal for reasons that you have rightly mentioned above!

She is falling at his feet not because anybody forces her to, she is doing it simply because that’s how her character feels like doing specially when in both instances it was almost their last few moments with eo before she is meant to leave BH and she wanted to convey the gratitude that her heart is so full of for him!

Bold 1 - Another perspective also is-

Some may believe in a divine power and call Him God,

Some may consider his or her parent/s to be their God while

There might be someone else that considers Karma to be their God!

People differ and so do perspectives and beliefs. You could of course argue why a parent who is at the end of the day a human being is elevated to the pedestal of God by a child, but it is that child’s personal journey that has resulted in him thinking of his parents as God.

Sometimes instead of a parent, it could even be a selfless wellwisher who deservedly gets that pedestal from a person. While the wellwisher didn’t do his selfless deeds with any such expectations!

Lastly, touching any elder’s feet as a sign of respect and reverence used to be deeply rooted in Bengali culture, a way of saying I bow down to the God that lives in your heart.
There was nothing demeaning or belittling about it. It is similar to saying namaste, me clasping my hand or touching or falling at your feet, for reasons more compelling (and personal to me) does not make me any lesser or you any greater. It is a gesture I felt like doing to you, could have been a friendly hug instead if that is what I felt like.

But yes since the status quo that was back then has been challenged/questioned , the current generation doesn’t necessarily follow this ritual aankh bandh karke to the T and that is perfectly fine.

Beautifully Written

Special mention to the last line

The Right To Make Your Own Choices And Not Be Ridiculed For Doing What Truly Makes You Happy Is Extremely Important

You can't write paragraphs on 'CHOICE' and then ridicule someone just bcz their choices/likes differs from what you like Or will choose for yourself

People must realise every individual is different and hence must respect whatever they choose for themselves even if you dont agree with it

So aptly put together! Her own blood relatives betrayed her. The villagers she lived with did nothing for her to save her. Rahul and her friend did come to help her but Ani took full responsibility for her and keeps believing that she can be so much more. The blind trust which he showed on her at a time where she literally lost everyone is what’s always leading her to consider him someone above everyone.

How can she repay what he did for her? All he married her also when he(acc to Jhanak) had someone he loved. He sacrificed his future to save hers and herself.

Great explanation Sohini!

Coming from a different background of religious belief and culture, obviously we don’t practice any of that. Moreover, I don’t know much about Bengali culture either, but I absolutely respect the emotions and values behind it.

I think the Indian shows platform in general have become very liberal. They have stopped giving importance to these basic morals and values because it’s all about the idea to live in a contemporary world where practicing certain acts would be considered embarrassing.

For my personal perspective, I don’t enjoy such scenes to the fullest because I don’t connect with it maybe because of my background. Especially when I am shipping a couple in a romantic way. That’s just my point of view and how I perceive a couple’s equation according to my expectation and i respect difference of opinions.

But your explanation does make sense if you contemplate the plot of the story and sort of connect the dots as to why Jhanak would think so highly of Anirudh. There are many great reasons that could fall under her set of thoughts to see him as great as God and respect him to that level of devotion. 🙂

Agree 💯. A decade ago even I used to feel falling at the husband's feet by the wife - that's inequality! But now I have come to believe that there's nothing wrong actually. As per Indian custom falling at elders feet It's very common. The way Jhanak falls at Anis feet on her own - it's pure adulation n devotion! Devotion is actually the ultimate form of love where in you completely surrender. That kind of love is very rare! And she will believe him blindly! Complete surrender to him. That's why she never left the house in spite of having so many chances because Ani didn't allow her. But now he wanted her to go take her exams so she's leaving the house.

Well written Sohini.

The previous time when she fell on his feet this had come up...

Personally I am not a fan of anyone falling on feet .

We are all basically human beings , why would we have to fall on someone's feet .

But yes , Like you said its part of our tradition .

In our place also during marriage we take aashirvad of our elders by falling on feet .

But everytime falling on feet is too much .

With respect to the story , I guess it is to show the pure gratitude that Jhanak has for Anirudh .

Aashirvad time it was ok..but now I dont know why it was inserted.

If someone is doing it whole heartedly then its ok, it become issue if its forced against will .

You get my point here! 👍

She will literally die without him, as she said earlier, because he is the only one in her life who is her whole universe. ✨

It will be very beautiful when they both realize their absence and try to reconnect. ❤️
