Really? I didn’t know that.
It has come to mean a lovesick fool but it started off as a way to say the n-word without getting reported for hate speech. It is a horrid slur. Same with chh*pri. It's a classist and casteist slur.

I agree with cha*pri. Even though I don’t know the exact meaning of the word (i am from south), from the context i have realised it is classism and casteism.
What I don’t understand that youtubers with millions views were using that term when they were criticising vidyut jamwal’s new movie. I was so surprised that why no one is talking about it. People are still using this term in 2024 ! I am talking exclusively on social media.
In my state, when people were using a similar term to laugh at tiktokers 4 years back, our youtubers were very fast to educate people about the term and its implications and it has really helped.

Yeah chhapar means a thatched roof. The slur is towards those communities who build such houses and live in them.
If you see the sort of content that gets called chh*pri, it always is someone poor and disposessed trying out luxury items or 'classy' aesthetics. The jibe is that 'these people can never truly be like us despite their aspirations.'
