My apologies for jumping into conversation of Mata Sita’s apparent exile uninvited. This is such a topic that distresses so many and finally I found above linked article quite satisfactory. There are two books mentioned, I have read one and writing there seems to resonate with spiritual sentiments. Love that is centre of all justice. Spiritual upliftment and merging into infinite spirit of bliss. Any judgement that doesn’t pushes one into that ultimate goal is adharma as concluded in “Holy Bhagvat Gita” by lord himself.

Thanks . Reading this article gave me much needed solace

Yes he says he knows that had Ravana touched Sita he would have been killed but all the world deserved to know who she actually was .... So That's why Brahma ji asked why he ignored her ... And then he indirectly prompts Brahmaji to tell who he and Sita ji were ... So Brahma ji tells everyone... And then Valmiki Ji explicitly mentions that he had tears in his eyes when Sita was entering fire

But we must understand that things are never binary, it's not always good vs bad. Ramji clearly knew that he was a man of high rank and would always be in view of public. He couldn't have let scar on his family name.

Again it wasn't about him trusting her, it was more like he said he can't believe Ravan controlled himself (I.e. didn't force himself onto her), now we all can agree that had Ravan actually forced, things might have been different even if Seeta ji didn't reciprocate and tried to remain loyal)

It wasn't her fault, but that was the society back then and even now, in such situations, Women are punished knowingly or unknowingly. Being a Human Avatar, he couldn't have behaved different from how humans will behave.

Lastly as I said in other post, I think he played diplomatically here, saying harsh words so that Seeta ma decides self immolation, he knew she was pious so won't be burnt and then all will believe in her.

P.S. if you copy quote post to a different thread, no notification comes, you need to tag the person for them to get notification

sorry didn’t know about the tagging thingsmiley36 haven’t been here in a long time so they’ve changed a lot of features.

It goes back to the worthiness then for me, if I believe in God (or avatar of God) then I want him to be just and pious and worthy of my respect and worship. All this information makes Ram not worthy of it in my eyes. I agree that society was wrong back then and still is to blame innocent women but he freed Ahilya for a similar thing but he couldn’t do that for his own wife?

That’s why I always wondered that Ram did that to Sita and they’re still considered the paragon of love and marriage in Hinduism. So all this stuff just negates that for me, why would I want to worship or revere a man /god who didn’t even trust his wife enough and was (lack of a better word) cruel enough to send his pregnant wife into exile for the word of some citizens. Their love is supposed to be so pure and divine but he can give it up because of citizens and dharma? What? If he can go to exile for his parents then he can give up the throne once again for his wife. He could’ve done things differently to that Dhobi and the citizens who questioned his wife. If he truly loved his wife and believed she was pure he shouldn’t have sent her into exile especially if she was pregnant!

I guess my viewpoint is very black and white in this regard. I guess I’ll go back to looking at Ram and Sita and the rest of them as characters rather than godly figures then(like the figures in Mahabharat).

It has been my solace too. Please read those books if you can. They will make you feel so closer to Mata and lord . “The Untold Story Of Sita” book must be more widely read. The story seems such an intimate experience of witnessing Mata’s leela . Her love for creation isn’t expressed in any texts. These pieces of divine literature will help one to connect with Mata on deeper level.

So I’ve also heard of a version of the story that the Sita that Raavan kidnapped wasn’t the “real” one but an illusion or some sort of soul etc of hers and when she came out of the Agni the true Sita was there. How true is that one?

That is from Ram Charit Manas of Tulsidas

Valmiki Ramayana doesn't even hint that.

Tulasidas made lot of changes like there Ravan pulls Seeta by hair while Valmiki Ramayana he holds her through waist

I have read Jaya too, but he added lot of unreal things, like Draupadi loving Karna(Jackfruit folklore), Niyoga was changed and what not,

Yeah he adds a lot of folk stories and plays but the good thing is he mentions in the bottom of the chapter that this story has been picked up from so n so version or play . So I don't get much confused about what is solely his interpretation, what is the og andwhat has been taken from folklore.

What did he change about niyoga ?
