Wouldn't two Actors that may be good have to use a criteria to make a worthy comparison?
You can also compare only expressions of certain feelings in similar situations as feelings are something universal...but that would have to be like a study.
But the lesser success of Hrithik's last movies than the one big success of Ranbir's latest is not - imo - a criteria to decide about better acting...

Box office isn’t a comparison to differentiate between actors, in that way let’s say Salman khan has delivered more blockbusters than Ranbir, so does that make Salman the better actor? Obviously not.
Some actors are simply great actors and also a massive stars, Hrithik is one of them so is Aamir, that’s why they’ll have films which might not make the expected numbers but the catch is the they’ve catered to all kind of audience and have not repeated their own formulae for back to back successes. Don’t you think it’ll be very easy for Hrithik to make a Dhoom 3 instead of Jodha Akbar after 2006? He didn’t and that’s how he’s .
If actors keep chasing box office only they will never end up with all successful films, that’s why Salman’s last 7 films flopped and SRK’s entire decade flopped, a balance is always necessary. Ranbir has done too much of man child characters that now he needs to act in something different, how many times can he win awards for men having daddy issues?
Yeah ranbir is far ahead of hritik. I liked hritik only on agneepath.

Is it really “talent” if he’s just playing himself
No. And in this case he’s playing himself for 17 years now..

As bad as that may seem, it strangely seems to sell a lot of tickets?

People are hating on Hrithik in this thread because of his physical beauty (which drunken Animal definitely does not have nor has he ever had it).
Hrithik is getting the treatment that beautiful actresses get, when people ignore their talent because they dismiss them as mere beauties with no appeal beyond their looks. For Hrithik, it's a two-hit punch between his looks and dancing so he's now being relegated to a bad actor whereas Kapoor son has made a career out of playing himself exactly the same in every role, a problematic and misogynistic manchild. Animal is just the same role but amped up on steroids to be even more toxic and overtly violent.
Yes, people are making it look like that just because Hrithik is extremely good looking and the best dancer in the industry, he cannot act, when he consciously chooses to play characters like Jalal, Rohit, Vedha, Anand, Karan or even an Ethan where dancing and good looks have nothing to do with the said character.
Good looks and dance is his bonus, without these qualities also he’d be the actor he’s. Ranbir doesn’t have any strength right now, in his initial days he atleast looked nice, but that’s also gone now as he uses VFX to look good. In the other hand Hrithik very gracefully carried his wrinkles in fighter and still looked like billion bucks to a point where people wouldn’t understand that how’s he looking so good at 50?
Ranbir is nowhere near Hrithik's level.

That’s my whole point was, it has sold many tickets still doesn’t mean people went there to see his acting.
Let’s see if he can sell half of those tickets without a big brand director since we are talking about his acting prowess.
