Sigh..for an otherwise *cough* 'liberal' forum...where people have dissed success of many movies calling it jingoism..or fundamentalism or forced feminism...they are celebrating Animal's success overlooking problematic Vanga and his awful lens of looking at both men and women...because suddenly a movie is just a 'movie' in case of Animal...that wasn't the case for other movies lol.

I don't disagree totally with it, but in 80s and early 90s ki movies ... 90% of them use to have r*pe/harassment scenes of hero's sister, mother or wife.

Surely today they are making much better movies if we compare that

Yes but not by hero

Here hero only hitting wife or lover and abusing enemy family ladies etc

See if villan does hararsment or rape or hitting woman than audience will not copy it(most would not) as its how in end villan gets defeated or dies or jail etc

But if hero start doing such things and get praised by all in movie than young men will think ts ok to hit wife hit girl friend abuse enemy family women etc

Nothing like was ever shown in 90s movies

did you see an hero behave so badly with woman before in hindi movies as kabir singh or animal ranbir

yes in 80s and 90s hero would run after heroine and pester her till she loved him thats wrong harassment

but there too hero never exceeded his limits with heroine or girl friends like kabir singh or animal movie raanbir

no 90s had good women movies like damini and lajjja and shakti mrityudand khhon bhari maang etc

just that they were not more success or talked about anywhere as now after social media

inded 90s had much better women oriented movies with good actors like rekha and madhuri and manisha n lead

they were not hyped or talked much as no internet thats all

Yes , Telugu movies mostly portray women for objectification purposes only. Sandeep Reddy Vanga being from south has made a cross over and got the same ideology to Bollywood.

Actually, Bollywood for the most part was going in the right direction and making positive strides.

Even recently KJo’s Rocky Aur Rani had such progressive scenes and really made people think over inbuilt patriarchy. With Animal we are back to square one.

Unfortunately, these kinda movies will continue to be made more now looking at Animals humongous success.

It’s the fact that we all know why he made this movie that makes of all of it so much worse. People complained about Kabir and his mistreatment of Preeti and upset about the criticism Vanga promised us he will come with even worse movie and he delivered his promise yet even though we knew his intentions people are falling for it, seeing it, celebrating it and even defending it, denying the obvious problematic aspects (which is all of Animal). We can deny all we want but we (the society) bear some responsibility cause it’s we who are encouraging this deranged man by giving him money for his sick fantasies.

I think whats going wrong is that the audience blindly hail their fav's character rather than knowing when to distinguish between right and wrong.

Enjoying the performance of Ranbir as Vijay is very different to defending the character of Vijay. It's possible to like a performance without justifying it. Only if actors also accepted that they are playing a flawed character which is not a hero material.

After watching Aamir's clip where he said "These are a few emotions that are very easy to provoke in the audience. Violence is one of these emotions and sex is another. These two emotions are most easy to provoke in a human being. The directors who aren’t that talented in creating a story and in showing emotions and creating situations, they depend heavily on violence and sex to make their films work. They think that if they show a lot of violence and sex in the film their film will be successful. I think this is a very wrong thinking. It is possible that they get success sometimes by doing this but this harms the society very much and I think it is a wrong thing to do. Those who are in the cinema are morally responsible to a certain extent. The audience, youngsters who are watching us, it definitely affects their minds. We should keep this in mind when we make a film that we don’t show something that leaves a bad impact on the new generation. I don’t say that there should be no violence in films. It depends on the subject but there are ways of showing."

I prefer the older actors and older directors at least they felt a moral responsibility, while creating a movie.

highlighted my point. Most actors will decline movies but the Kapoor lad will do anything in a movie this movie got the sex obsessed alpha males, macho , or deprived males to the theaters. Sex xxx violence sells.

this is why Salman since tere naam ) though that character is mild in comparison still when he saw some youth taking it as a heroic character he decided not todo roles that would negatively influence the youth). Not even grey shades. His roles have to have heroism in it or he declines which has lost him some roles like dhoom 4, in kick and even race 3 etc his character in the end promotes good over evil. No matter how controversial things in his real life ( bringing this point as some might ). Onscreen he wants todo postive characters only. Though I don’t mind grey shade characters or anti hero like in race. Yet this character is just plain violent n psycho path with no redeeming qualities. Yet some glorifying the character. As mentioned I have seen guys making reels and glorifiying or boasting that they beasts or monsters n women should know their place.

well said. Had some other actor done this who I like varun I say the same. I get that it’s only a character n movie, but it becomes problematic when people thing in real it’s ok. Treat it as just a fictional character only.
