The only Korean culture I care for is kimchi*.

Personally, I never got into K-pop or K-dramas or K-movies. It is just a matter of preference. So I don't understand what the big deal is. But if people enjoy it, great. And I do enjoy K-pop fans online - they can be hilarious, and their mass attacks on crazy conservatives are entertaining.

I don't see the need to compare, though. I think Indian movies do have an iconic cultural following across the globe. It is just not that visible. I'd actually say that Indian pop culture has a much bigger following that Korean pop culture. It is just that the nations where Indian pop culture is huge - are not fully digitally connected or are not dominant groups online.

In most of Africa and the Middle East, Bollywood movies are followed more than K-pop or K-dramas, and every rando on the streets knows Shahrukh Khan. There still is a big love for Indian movies and music in Russia and Central Asia. And in many Asian countries in Oceania, too - Indian movies are more popular than Korean.

Just let everyone consume and enjoy what they want without comparing and determining which is more popular or dominant.

I mean, we all know that Taylor Swift and the Eras tour are the pinnacle of global pop culture. What's the point. šŸ˜› j/k

*fermentation culture joke - I do enjoy Korean cuisine wholly

Apropos of nothing, 90 % of K drama writers are women

And the writing in some shows is phenomenal, not blindly copying HW ( but I do see some themes, dialogues taken from HW) and the shows are more for female gaze

Also I see many comments online by Westerners (Americans I guess) about how sick and tired they're of HW movies/ TV shows - the preaching, the wokeism has turned them off and they've turned to Asian shows for entertainment

They also like the slow burn romance instead of banging against the wall, 10 min after meeting stuff they show in HW

I clarified it in other posts.

Anyway I never saw Hrithik or any Indian star having youth trend their names worldwide daily or vote them on top of every hottest, sexiest and most handsome polls the way Korean idols have people hyperventilating over them globally.

So much so that Indian media also had to call Korean idols on their shows, live chats and interviews to fulfil demands of Indian fans of Korean idols.

We may find Indian celebs hot but we don't vote for them. Korean pop stars usually have teenage fans. We grown ass women, leaving our whole work aside and going rabid with multiple accounts is not gonna happen. We enjoy what we see but it ends there.

Forget the West, even Bollywood doesn't consider Desi Men good looking other than a particular region in North India. 90% of Bollywood actors have been Punjabi. Not just now but through eternity. The female demographic is a lot more even. Why is that? It's because other than Punjabi Men, Desi Men do not fit into the conventionally attractive category. The good news is it's changing. With proper diet, gym, Skin care & grooming.....Desi Men are becoming a lot more attractive than just 15 years ago. Just facts!!!

Now come at me with the racist, regionist, self hate BS theories. Ciao!!!

12 years and Guess Who still remains ethnocentric. This is why I didn’t quote you because we’ve been down this road before. Of course you’d lump all Indian men together and separate your group. Predictable

It is not just fair.

One can see it in live videos as well. It is not full of pits, scars, fine lines, acne marks, pigmentation, blemishes. It is comparatively very even and smooth. They also look younger than their actual age thanks to smooth, shiny glass skin.

What is need to mock their eyelids? That is how most East Asians look like and so do people from Northeast India and Nepal, Tibet.

Indians are also racist AF to not just Blacks but everyone including each other. Check their never ending hate for NE people, South Indians vs North Indians or rest of India hating on people from UP and Bihar and calling them bhaiye or cowbelt people.

Anyone can be racist. What does it have to do with global fame? Or popularity and appeal?

Bcz they spend a lot to look like that, as they are insecure about their eyes and how they look in general. The beauty standard is too toxic, putting a lot of pressure on high school kids. The suicide rate is also highest in that country. And the no1 concern is the looks.

Yes, anyone can be racist, but Korea is not what kdrama watchers perceive.

I have clarified again and again that it is NOT about fair skin.

Also sorry but desis also use make up, VFX, surgeries and still do not have worldwide fandom hyperventilating over their looks.

The closest who came to being admired globally was Aishwarya Rai in her prime.

No one else.

Your opinions on actresses are subjective. And from an only Indian POV. I am talking of global fame here. Not subjective preferences of Indians.

We have never had people in other cultures and nations smitten by our stars or models or searching ways to look like Indians and get skin like us the way people legit look for brands and home remedies or surgeries to get glass skin like Koreans.

I am surprised to see Korean skin care and make up brands take world by storm and even their diet and home remedies being discussed online to get hair and skin like them.

Something which has never happened in case of South Asian nations or their celebs or models.

Nobody's keen to know what we eat or do to get looks like desis. Is that point too hard to grasp?

Why the complex about just fairness when it is more about skin quality and how smooth and even, youthful Korean skin looks in their dramas and music videos?

Threads like these are an eye opener. The reaction emojis quite insightful as well. Can’t believe we’re in 2023. I would like really like to hear people spout these casually racist and self hate remarks in public. Too bad anyone can be a paper tiger on the internet.

Desis indeed lack looks, skin quality, height, shape, aura, charisma.

Most of them look old, have scarred or pitted skin, fine lines, wrinkles at young age, average height, out of shape frame, uneven complexion and skin tone, tired or weary looking eyes with folds on eyelids and under eye bags or sleepy/nashedi eyes, dull skin, acne, uneven teeth, lack of proportionate body features.

Desi men and women lack sharp features.

No wonder people then see Hrithik and Ash as some dazzling lookers and too good to be true or perfect because such chiselled features are rare in subcontinent.

Even after all botox, hair transplant, VFX and denting painting, desis look average to above average at the most and lack that quality to instantly get noticed - especially by strangers and ones unfamiliar to South Asian cinema.

They also lack any unique talent that is eye catching. For eg Bruce Lee, Jackie Chan and Michelle Yeoh had superb martial arts skill which was new and unheard of in HW earlier so they made it globally.

Desis lack both looks and originality.

No unique or exceptional talent or skill.

I felt embarassed when I learnt how much of our films and music were just copied as it is from global content.

And how artistes even copied hair styles and acting or looks.

Raj Kapoor for eg is just a cheap mimic of Charlie Chaplin and had no originality at all. Yet he is called greatest legend or showman here.

Madhubala had often shamelessly copied Marilyn Monroe's style. Sadhana copied Audrey Hepburn.

I really do not think such lot has potential to catch attention of new global audience.

We are like khu da daddu. Appreciate our own copies, duplicates, remakes, rip offs, mimics and call those average looking, average talent hacks as greats and give them awards.

Is this post for real? How can an Indian possibly be so self-loathing toward Indians?
