Last week we saw two leading actors, Iqbal Khan from CHA and Shilpa Anand from DMG, quit the shows suddenly. This made me start this topic.
Recently we have seen lot of actors leaving their shows, either in pursuit for a career in films or for better prospects. This leaves fans who faithfully follow the shows highly disappointed and the ratings for the shows are affected. I think it is high time Indian television industry go through a revamp. They need to introduce the concept of seasons, like they have in western televisionindustry. This will help both the actors as well as production houses to run a better show with more discipline.
By having the concept of seasons actors get 3-4 months of break every year during which they can try their hand in acting in movies or get a vacation that they badly need after working so hard. An actor if chooses then can leave the show after one season during which they can bring a logical conclusion to the character, thus not making the fans go through the torture of seeing another actor taking up their favorite character. This helps even the production team as they can write better stories and concepts and they can shoot bank episodes in advance. I believe this will highly improve the quality of the shows we have. I read about one of the western shows that they actually prepare the shows 3 months in advance before airing the episodes unlike our shows where the episodes are shot the previous day.
I also think that there should be more weekly shows than dailies. I know we all want to see our favorite actors 5 days a week. But what do we get from these serials. Out of the 25 mins of airtime 5 mins are gone for item dance, 5 mins for flash backs and sad songs and 5 mins of zooming to everyones face with bad camera effects. We get just 10mins of story everyday. I would prefer to see a solid 45mins of story once a week than see crap shown everyday. A prime example for this would be ek packet umeed which comes in NDTV imagine which is much better than any other daily in television.
