Not asking which is your favourite character, but the character you think is the most iconic and famous among the audience.

Munna in Rangeela❤️ Aamir played the tapori with a good heart with such perfection.

The characters which are not in the list - Aakash in DCH - his look, that goatee..and in general DCH is just an amazing movie..the same guy who played a tapori..then plays an uber cool urban Sobo/ Bandra guy with such ease!

Also Ajay Singh Rathore in Sarfarosh. I really miss young Aamir's natural acting with ease..

Surprised this list does not have QSQT. That film legit made him overnight success and his Papa kehte hain song is still played at farewells at schools and colleges till date. Many had crush on him and Juhi. Many younger actresses like Rani confessed to having crush on Aamir after that film. Even Smriti Irani admitted to bunking school to see that film and having a crush on Aamir then, feeling inspired to rebel against parents and run away from home. 🤣

His DCH, Rangeela, 3 Idiots, Sarfarosh, AAA, TZP, RDB, Ishq, Ghulam, DHKMN, JJWS characters are other popular characters. Lagaan was a rage when it released and went to Oscars but Bhuvan craze has not lasted like popularity of other characters he did (atleast this is why I believe).

Ghajini was wildly popular when it released but I believe it did not have longer lasting appeal as say, Akash of DCH or Amar of AAA.

Globally his most popular character remains Rancho. 3 Idiots resonated with a lot of Asian kids and was breaking records overseas for a reason. Many people abroad know Aamir mainly through 3 Idiots, TZP and Lagaan. TZP was another one which resonated with lot of parents and kids and culture of pressure to perform at academics. Many wished they had teacher like Nikumbh sir.

In India, I would maintain QSQT, DCH, Rangeela, Ghulam, 3I, RDB, JJWS, AAA are more popular among masses. There are youth who still copy train stunt from Ghulam and get injured or wear caps and rings like Ghulam.

Sarfarosh has gained popularity in last few years too especially among nationalists for its directly blaming Pakistan for cross border terrorism, smuggling and showing a Pak based singer as a spy and ISI agent. Though I feel film is more popular than Aamir's character in it.

RDB had great impact too when it released. His one liners and paathshaala song and dance became famous.

In my opinion, Aamir's most iconic character is PK. His dialect, his look and clothes are so unique in the movie, it easily gained a lot of popularity. Although they obviously never became fashionable or trendy because of how outlandish they were.

His Ghajini "hairstyle" was famous when the movie came out. I saw so many guys in my class going bald. It was actually a trend. His look was famous.

Aamir's look in Rangeela also became a fashion statement in the 90s. His dialect and clothes became popular among youth.

Amar in Andaz Apna Apna didn't have a unique look, but comedians still mimick this character when they mimick Aamir. People think Aamir's actual talking style is like Amar in the movie.

Mangal Pandey was a real person who was famous even before Aamir made a movie on him. But his look in the movie did influence how people saw the real freedom fighter.

Mahavir Phogat, Bhuvan, DJ are more or less equally popular.

Rancho is obviously very popular because the movie 3 Idiots is very popular. However, for Rancho I'll say he's the least iconic Raju Hirani protagonist. Munna Bhai and PK have very popular looks, and their talking style, mannerisms are widely mimicked in pop-culture. 3 Idiots is considered Aamir's best movie, but Rancho as a character is less iconic than some of his other characters.

I would have added Aakash from Dil Chahta Hai, but didn't have more options. I picked DJ over him, because I think people remember the name of DJ more than Aakash. At least I personally do. Maybe its just me, but I can more easily recall the names of all the guys in RDB than DCH.

It’s actually hard to choose because each of them are so different from the other and iconic in their own right, but if I have to choose the weakest of them then it would be DJ of RDB.

I agree on Rang De Basanti, and I wonder why? Perhaps it was because all the characters were so fleshed out it's easier to remember their names.

Rang De Basanti had very diverse and contrasting characters, not just in personalities but also backgrounds. All of them also got equal importance in the story, compared to Dil Chahta Hai, where Aamir got center stage in the end. The friendship bond in RDB seemed stronger compared to DCH. All this could be the reason why the characters in RDB are more memorable.

Now that you mention it, I like when equal attention is basically given to the main characters in an ensemble movie, which rarely happens. It doesn't make sense to have 2 of the main characters be molds, and the most popular actor be playing the one non-mold character.
