Thank you for sharing this beautifully reflective poem. Your view of the world is coloured by your intrinsic nature. So, if fundamentally you remain the same and don't evolve, you will carry that view with you regardless of where you end up physically. I love how the poet says it here.
It's human nature to want things to change for the better, but not many have the depth of thought, or even strength of character, to understand and accept that true change begins from within. That which is without, and over which we have little control, can merely act as an impetus, if that.
Like you said, it's good that Anupa is trying to build a new life, but until the time that her sense of self is based on an inherent need to be needed, not much will change. As for our resident Devdas,
"Whatever I try to do is fated to turn out wrong and my heart lies buried like something dead."
^and this is not going to change anytime soon for him because every character exists only to burnish the angelic sheen of Anupa. The more illogical his behaviour, the more her patience and calmness and faith is highlighted.
With him being out of it, our original cad gets a chance to occupy centre stage with his shenanigans. When nayi udaans are being brandished in the name of rinse and repeat, why should he not dive in!
Dumb, dumber, dumbest. The only description they share out equally between themselves.
