Murtasim biggest problem is not that Meerab doesn't understand love, she has trouble accepting he loves her that passionately. She could be fearing once he beds her, his desire for her will die and so will the love. Her inability to see past herself is because of her trauma and her trust issues not because she is being difficult for difficult sakes.

Consent in marriage is how a man should behave, otherwise he is an animal, he gets no brownie points here.
