Does younger, post 2000 audience idolize Tiger, Varun, Ranveer, Ranbir, Shraddha, Deepika, Katrina, Alia, Tara, Disha etc the way 80s, 90s, 2000s gen had idolised Khans, Rani, Ash, Preity, HR, Akki, Ajay etc?

Do new stars indeed lack stardom or is it older generation that thinks they are no big deal but younger one probably likes them as much as we did for Khans?

I am confused. Though I think Khans, HR had way better BO record than new lot and more ATBBs, highest grossing film of year compared to new lot at their age.

And I also think not a single new star has the insane hysteria for them that AB sr or Rajesh Khanna or Rajinikanth had in their heydays in past.

Is it a generation thing? Or it is just that stars get less fascination now as new gen is more educated, mature and does not get swayed by stars easily and also has more options for entertainment and content, compared to old gen who lapped up whatever that came their way?

it is a generational thing,

even with the khans it is not the same as what it was with rajesh khanna and amitabh bachan

girls apparently used to write love letters in blood etc, attempt suicide when they got married etc

even the khans did not have such stardom

with the next gen it will dwindle further and even more rapidly due to sm and as you said maturing of a population which is why you dont see adulation in hw, indian audience will slowly become that

also simple maths, the footfalls for cinema have also fallen,

16 cr for sholay, 10 r for mughal e azam

AB sr has multiple movies with 5-7 cr range of footfalls

in recent times only bb had 10 cr + that too all india

even ddlj and hahk are 5-7 cr range, which means khans at highest couldnt pull in what a sholay could and since then it has fallen rapidly

this is with increased population

which means audience has decreased and craze has gone down

it is recency bias which makes us think the khans are bigger but yes they have considerable more stardom compared to the next gen

You ask a 10/15 year old about Bollywood and I wonder what answer you get.

no, they are not that silly as to obsess about stars.😉

btw, barring a few, if someone has ever seen any of these khans (or others for that matter) in RL, they would stop obsessing about them too. Most nondescript.

NRI OR those born here don’t care 🤷‍♀️. People don’t even care on bo numbers. They like a movie they know movie did well that’s it. They don’t make celebrations threads some who curious might just hear on the news the movie did well and that’s it. Some might not even like a movie that did well in bo n vice versa .

For devanand, girls used to fell down from terrace for seeing him. His black coat was banned as he looked so handsome.

Though I never find him handsome 😆

With each generation, public gets more n more demanding. Next generation would even think what we found in khans n they r overrated.

These days public themselves want to become stars by becoming content creators. And they would start feeling how talented they r as compared to Bollywood actors.

Ppl have so much money that they copy same Bollywood songs set n dress n makeup n make reels. So they don't find anything unusually special about Bollywood anymore.

AB and Rajesh Khanna’s time was different. There were no social media at that time. Forget about social media, there were not even many TV at that time. So girls life revolved around their favorite hero. Nowadays, kids doesn’t watch movies much because there are so many things to watch in social media and in TV and nobody has time to write love letter by their blood when they don’t know someone personally. This generation people realize that actors just do their job and they are nothing like the characters that they play in onscreen. So nobody would idolize actors so badly to write love letter by their blood or do other crazy things. When you see so many good things around you, then you will find things boring at one point. It’s like when you have so much money, then you will get bored of everything so easily but if you don’t have much money, then you will get excited for everything. So idolizing goes the same way.
