No innovation this season

There’s absolutely no innovation from the creators and contestants this season. Most of the challenges have been pretty run of the mill. I remember in previous seasons challenges were more challenging. I remember they had to cook something inside a bamboo stick, make a navratna that using only 500gms ingredients from the pantry, tasting a dish and replicating it without a recipe, etc. barring yesterdays challenge, everything has been fairly simple.

If we talk about the contestants they’ve make the same things for a few weeks and then choose another. In the initial weeks everybody made hummus with whatever grains they got, after that it was the turn of kalakand and now Mille feuille. We’ve seen way too many cakes, fruit reduction and South Indian food. There’s so much more contestants can make.

I would say that this season is probably the worst if we talk of innovation. They still have four weeks, I hope they come up with something more challenging, though I have zero hopes.

Agree, ita completely dead none of the dishes are smthng new or memorable! Like, i mean i know i keep comparing it with old seasons of MSC aus but damn the level and presentation there and the same here is so disappointing!

None of the cooks take risks or experiment and even if they do, they fail miserably and their presentation is getting worse each day i mean i can never see the same thing from top8 from other masterchefs. 😭😭😭

They repeat a dish once they know it hit the right spots with the judges. It started with Kalakand, now it is Mille-Frullie’s turn. Pouring sauce or broth in a dish is also very common this season. I am so done with broth being poured from a small jug.

Tag team challenge, two people cooking the same thing w/o seeing are all common challenges. These all promote the ability to think on ur feet & replicate. We get more footage where people b***h about each other than how the actual challenge was.

Replicating a dish without a recipe is a pressure test round. I doubt if this MC will have it. Don’t remember if previous seasons had it. They western MC’s pressure test were indeed pressure test. You get so many different elements with diff techniques all at once.

Only Anahita’s was a real challenge. Rest of the black apron challenges were so mediocre that I don’t recall at all!

Absolutely agree! In the past you could watch an episode and feel I want to try this but not anymore.

Natasha from last season is on insta and shares some of her healthy grain recipes. I feel each contestant last season stood by the signature they had been selected for. This season most of them have fallen flat.

I think the workshops are supposed to help. But besides Gurkirat, Suvarna, and Nayan all others are strictly doing okay. As much as people find Suvarna annoying she has attempted different cuisines successfully. Santa is great for her forte but I am yet to see her learning curve, probably that has to do with how quickly some people can learn.

I feel the episodes don't push the contestants enough or everyone just knows Aruna is going to get all the praises and don't put in much effort.

I think it's clear when the dish of the day at a race to finale episode is a middle eastern platter with three dips 🤣🤣

I've been using Indian spices in my hummus and tzakziki since ages, I should've been MasterChef winner by now 🤪😆

Exactly, I always add jeera powder to my hummus and muhammara and even baba ganoush!

I remember that challenge where contestant had 500kg Kadai and they had to make kadah halwa. Looking at this season challenges I was actually remembering this challenge few days ago.

And today we say another version of Mille feuille; this time Suvarna was smart enough to call it ‘open gujiya’
