Historically, cousin marriages took place for two reasons - to keep all the wealth within the family and secondly girls never got out so for their safety, boys within the family were chosen.
In Hindus, these reasons were applied, as long as it was within the gotra system. In the gotra system, intermarriage within a family is prohibited if the two members descend from a common mythical ancestor. So weirdly, in Hindu families the gotra system was to increase lineage - broaden the influence of one gotra into another, which is complete opposite of keeping everything within the family. This was not about wealth, but about everything, intellect, wealth, inspiration and aspirations. In fact, in Hindus any marriage is not preferred within the gotra. So many times cousins marriage doesn’t fit within the gotra rule, except in cases of second cousins which only exists in very very few communities - such as Malayalam and Telugu speaking comms.
There is enough scientific proof to state that children of first cousins have risk of recessive genetic disorder, but not conclusive in the case for second cousins.
That said, in this time and age, frankly it is a bit of an eye roll. My friend who is Telugu tells me she gets so annoyed when in most Telugu movies the automatic is second cousins marrying. Again, this must come down to how girls must have agency - they should be allowed to choose.
Cousin marriage is 'allowed' not 'obligatory'. Secondly, as per Muslim belief all humans are descendent of Baba Adam and bib Hawa. So the 'mythical' ancestor is same that means marriage can not happen at all.
Secondly, read this about the myth of cousin marriage being 'oh so harmful'. https://www.bradford.gov.uk/media/3276/cousin-marriage-and-genetic-inheritance-leaflet.pdf
https://www.nytimes.com/2002/04/04/us/few-risks-seen-to-the-children-of-1st-cousins.html
There is much more contradictory material available to common belief that cousin marriage significantly increases the risk of genetic defects.
Thirdly, suppose 2 people decide to not have children at all or they decide to adopt for example in case of HIV positive parents. Is cousin marriage still wrong?

It says there in one of the links you posted that risks of birth defect, genetic disorder, or disability increases by 3% among first cousins. More importantly, it increases even more when the relatedness of the parents increases. Pay attention to that last part. In Pakistan, it’s not just one instance of cousin marriage. Usually, in these families there are multiple first cousin marriages going on across multiple generations. The risks increase with each successive intra-family generation because those recessive genes pile up. Thalassemia is one genetic disease prevalent in Pakistan because of this issue.
Gheti kaun?
Eagerly....so that it washes off all that horrid makeup off Yumna 😆
So true. She is the kind that don't look good in heavy makeup. Only no makeup makeup look suits her.
I want to ask is cousin marriage common or rare in today's Pakistan society? What are the reasons for it?
In my life I have only seen one cousin marriage and she was an older generation to me. It still feels so weird to me.
Gheti kaun?
Asvi’s SIL - played Hira Mani, whose husband dies. Mujhe voh show itna pasand hai ki pucho mut.

I have to say I agree. In her shows with Zahid, gosh her acting was so top notch. Kabhi laga hi nahi ki she needs make up, her delivery, her restraint in acting just made her so attractive. For that matter even in Ishq e laa, she is in minimal make up, beautiful simple salwar jodas. at no point as a viewer you felt ki Azlan cannot choose her after that beautiful Shanaya. She was just the one meant for him.
I do think Yumna took this role to satisfy that “star” in herself - thoda massy drama, OTT dialogues, bahut saara make up, heavy Jewellery and lehenga shehenge….poor thing, I do feel bad for her. Because it’s kind of backfiring for her. Upar se she just got out of Bhaktawar where Pata nahi make up ke chair pe sirf wig pehne ke liye baithi hogi.
Hats off to her!!!

Can't that be achieved w/out the glossy paint palette thrown on her face?
She looked beautiful in the function Haya was hallucinating and exercising her arms.😆
It takes away from the chemistry.
