I have volunteered and donated at orphanages and can confirm that not all kids there have dead or absconding parents.

Many kids are voluntarily given up by one or both parents citing reasons where they sign forms for relinquishment of their parental rights, while there are others who give their child into the "system" just to be fostered, i.e., taken care of, while they remain their parents on paper.

Indian laws have a very bleak explanation of this and many couples don't choose fostering because there is no incentive to it and would rather just sponsor a child while he or she stays in the orphanage, but this process is a lot more bifurcated in the US or many other countries where sponsorship, fostering and adoption are three different situations. Fostering is provided so that kids without parental care can find a home till they get their parents back or they get adopted or they become adults. Also fostering couples often get allowances to take care of the child.

Fostering is NOT Adoption, it just involves parental care, it doesn't make you a parent of a child. Calling fostering adoption is like calling a live-in relationship a marriage or calling babysitting as giving birth.

4 mahine mein kaunsi parvarish di hai Anuj and Anupamaa ne. Most of the time she was being cared for by GK kaka when Anuj was recovering, other times she was with Sara, Barkha or Ankush and a couple of times with Anuj. Besides when Anu the Maa dragged her to TamaShah house so that Leela could demean and scold Anu for no reason.

Anuj and Anupamaa are foster parents not adoptive parents. They have no legal right on Anu.

Legally birth parents will have the parental right even if they have left her at the orphanage to be fostered. Unless the birth parents gave up their rights when they left her at the orphanage or are proved to be unfit they are still Anu’s legal parents. If birth parents are proved to be unfit, even then Anuj and Anupamaa do not get parental rights to Anu. It would just declare Anu to be eligible for adoption if her birth parents are unfit.

Anuj and Anupamaa have not been married for 2 years, they cannot adopt Anu.
