Sonu never suited macho or rough image heroes except Salman. And Salman also uses his voice only in romantic or comedy songs like Jawani fir na aaye. Not for songs like title of Dabangg which have to give macho image.

You can rant against Udit all you want but his voice suits Akshay better and most of Akki's top hits from 90s are either from Udit or Kumar Sanu and even in 2000s we had songs like Falak tak chal saath mere which suited Akshay a lot.

its not about dosti flop or hit its about the different film directors has visioned akshey kumar in sonu nigam voice rahter than udit narayan mainly in duets, (udit never really sutied akshey a bit , akshey seems like faking the lyp in udit voice) for kumar sanu one can say but for udit narayan who has a very pankaj udas type of tone doesnt suite on many actors to say forget macho udit dont suite the not so macho saif ali khan too,

the issue with udit narayan is he sings in same tone all his songs , he lack the energy an actor needs to brought in the song he just smile sings the romantic lines and go away , udit lack the quality of changing voices to different actors , he just sing in that smiling happy voice for every one

Udit never had the macho voice neither the right tone for right actors at all, udit had just that one tone for all the actors , most of the time udit narayan sounded like a second version to Pankaj Udas which doesnt gel with akshey kumar ,, yeah amir khan during his initial days when he was very boyish might have suited udit but then when amir khan became macho he stop using udit narayan voice ,

while Sonu can bring the macho tone and get sweeter at time its all in his own command , can emote different voices that is what an intelligent singer does it , he can variate his tone to different actors and that is the quality missing in udit narayan singing , udit had that one happy tone for all actors which doesnt gel properly with many actors,

infact govinda gel more with Sonu than Udit the machoness of Govinda came out in Sonu voice only, while udit just sang in same happy tone for him for what he sings for amir and others , no vareity in voice at all same pankaj udas tone

All fans of sweety type voiced singers resent when someone speaks about manly voiced singers.

Can you imagine sweet boyish voice of Sonu Nigam for actors like Amitabh Bachchan with deep baritone?

There is a reason why Sonu was used for romantic songs in Dabangg while a more manly voice like Sukhwinder was used for title song of Dabangg.

Govinda was always a comedian so I am not surprised that a less macho and more sweet or childlike voice was used for him.

Everyone has own preferences. Vinod Rathod for eg has deep, manly voice and is perfect for Sanjay Dutt which is why he was used in Munnabhai series too. I do not think sweety voiced Sonu suits manly or older actors. He suits romantic or college kid role or less macho actors more. This is why his voice was used for cute or puny Aamir Khan in Fanaa, 3 Idiots and Ghajini.

I am glad Sonu did not work in era of manly voiced and macho actors like Amitabh, Vinod, Shatru or else he would have it really hard to suit their voices and looks. It is his luck that he made it in 90s and 2000s when most actors were keen to play virginal college kids in love.

Udit has mischief in his voice that Sonu does not. I can imagine Tu cheez badi hai mast mast lacking any masala or mischief or lust element if sweet voiced Sonu of 90s sang that song. It would sound more like a college kid eve teasing a girl student rather than a grown ass cop singing for a grown woman at villain's den.

Screenshots you shared are spot on. Kishore da had more manly voice which is why he scored voice of Amitabh and went far ahead in 1970s. Rafi is technically far more accomplished and trained singer than Kishore but it is true his voice hardly suited likes of Amitabh or Shatru. He was hence chosen more to sing for Rishi type chocolate boys. Though Kishore stole a march there too and gave hits like Yeh Vaada raha, Saagar, Karz etc to Rishi.
