How do stars become media darlings?

Why does media seem to be favourable and nice towards some actors compared to others?

How do stars manage to become media darlings and get favourable coverage and reviews?

Is it due to PR or own attitude also or friendships with journos and editors?

Whereas some get no good coverage or acknowledgement even if they do good work?

Media goes after whoever gets them engagement. I think whether the attention is favourable or negative depends on where they are in the hype cycle. Alia for instance was being ripped apart in 2020, but now she is the second coming of Mother Teresa.

They should be authentic

Is it? All I remember is media always being harsh on Aamir and he also hating media whereas media was quite nice to SRK. Media was also harsh on Salman from day one even before his court cases. And media had banned Amitabh through peak of his career and he began speaking to media only after 1990 or so.

Media has been mostly kind to Kapoors also. Regardless of tantrums of Rishi for eg. And media is very kind to Kajol despite her rudeness.
