One of SRK best movies, period

The sensitive portrayal of nationalism, sportsmanship and women is amazing.

YRF should start making movies like this

I wonder if this movie had came out today in the age of social media, both left and right would've criticized it.😆

Left for Kabir's character "mansplaining" the girls throughout the film, and right wing for the scene where the girls thrash a bunch of eve teasers being too "woke"😆

Also I wonder if there was a love angle for Kabir and Vidya in the initial draft of the script which was later on removed by the makers.😆

They showed Vidya's home life being a mess and Bindiya doubting on them having an affair when we don't see any romantic moment or scene between them.

Did they plan on Vidya leaving her husband and ending up with Kabir initially? Vidya's story didn't get a good conclusion because her husband and in-laws only accepted her after she won the world cup. If they had lost she won't have got that respect.

There's even a deleted scene in the film where Kabir tells Vidya to go home happily, because they're still your husband and family and blah blah.

It was good they deleted that scene because it again gave out the message, that a woman just has to accept her husband and in-laws no matter how they are. Although they still gave that message subtly.

Preeti's ending was alot better with she dumping her arrogant fiance. The way that jerk talked to her throughout the movie, I was wondering why she's even in love with him and planning to marry him.😆

If there was anything troubling/problematic in the movie by today's standards, it would have been dug up from the grave over and over to be roasted and trashed unceasingly like we see some people do constantly with movies like KKHH, don't you think?

The only part I imagine people kicking up a fuss today is the beginning where he's written off as a traitor doing Pakistan's bidding in the final hockey match and losing on purpose.

Actually there is a scene here at 2:33.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fPGJ2QwIvzk&t=2m33s

"Chhakke" is a slang for eunuchs. Kabir shamed the guy saying "Hockey mein chhake nahi hote" because he was about to hit a girl from behind. Its an insult to the eunuch community as he's basically calling them cowards. This dialogue won't fly today as it's indeed problematic.

Oh, yeah that wouldn't sit well with the crowd today. I'm sure they would have tweaked that scene or replaced the slur with something else.

But all in all, I think there's very little to complain about and I find the movie more on the progressive side, if anything.

These days we've all become experts at nit-picking and being "offended". Found a few comments on Youtube taking offense at changing the coach's religion for the film.
