Varun's 1st 9 films were SUCCESS, which no other young actor has achieved after debut. He is a much bigger star.

Watched JJJ last weekend, liked his performance in the first staff where he's a mess after knowing about the drama going on within his family (and I have never liked VD or his movies).

Feel like he should try something similar, where he's all hairan pareshan. Ayushman's genre basically.

This. A few years ago Varun was the talk of town with hits like Street Dancer2, Badrinath etc. Even his average or semi hits like Dishoom were hailed as a success because there was enough hype around him and his PR could get away with such claims. Not anymore.

Today Kartik is the talk of town and no one is saying he doesn’t deserve it. But if he’s not careful he’ll be in the same place Varun is at now. He needs to expand his fan base beyond just the youth mass market IMO.

In all fairness I was howling in those days in this forum and literally screaming that his films aren’t “clean hits” and I was called crazy!

I remember. I actually remember a couple of people saying this. Back then Varun had some staunch defenders on this forum and he was declared the best thing since slice bread and on his way to being the next superstar. How times have changed!

Varun is indeed the biggest in Young Generation, 5 Clean Hits & 10 Success films, no match.

Calling his average or semi hits as successes is a PR strategy that he’s still using. When Anupama Chopra brought up Kalank and SD3 just a couple of weeks ago he actually said SD producers made money. By that logic than everyone’s movies are a success.

- All Time Blockbuster

Success films are -

- Clean Hit films added

- Average

- Semi-Hits

From SOTY to JJJ, Varun has done 16 films out of which 1 released on OTT - Coolie No.1 (Which was SuperHit as per trade on OTT).

Out of 15 Films, 5 Films are Clean Hits & 10 Films Success. Let me Show you -

That includes the likes of SOTY, Main tera hero, Dilwale & Dishom which were not even clean hits..but average grossers..same dilwale which is counted as a flop for SRK but becomes a success for VD..
