Meaning they wanted to show both their faces but couldn't take an overhead shot... So they gave huge bolsters to prop behind the pillows... So that the face is tilted up...

It used up space at the back of bed and made his legs hanging out... Vaise this may also be because he was standing close to her and jumped on the bed when she turned.. so he was not properly sleeping as such... Just pretend lying down.
