The Great Gatsby and BALH 2
It was fascinating to see the parallels between the 'match-making' and the 'office confrontation' episodes. [As a Minnesotan, how can I not talk about the famous book - "The Great Gatsby."] The book is renowned for the usage of color symbolism and the creatives of BALH2 have used colors symbolically to tell their story.
In the match-making episode, we see Ram as Jay Gatsby, whereas in the office confrontation episode, we witness V as Jay Gatsby. We see the juxtaposition of Gatsby and Daisy in the two episodes.
The match-making episode is where Pri came in between Ram, and V. Ram and V stood by the large bay windows overlooking the rain outside. The sky was grey outside, and grey signifies loss of hope, dignity, and failure.
V was here in green symbolized Ram's [Gatsby] fantasy for V [Daisy]. Daisy's dock – "longing hope of reunion with Daisy."
Ram in maroon whereas Pri in yellow dress and white stole. Yellow is also the color of gold. If yellow is an enchantment on the outside, then gold symbolizes wealth and high social position. White is innocence. Maroon is not red but symbolizes courage, confidence, and indecision.
When Ram lost V to Shashi, analogous to Gatsby losing Daisy to Tom Buchanan, Jay Gatsby [Ram] went on to gain enormous wealth. But as we witnessed V being Ram's illusion, the real Daisy turned out to be Priya in white and yellow attire, just like the flower daisy. There were no surprises when we saw Ram follow Pri, and then their first fight ensued in the parking lot in midst of the rain.
Pri walked in through the glass door and to the embrace in the office confrontation. She turned and left. This time, Ram and V were standing by the glass windows, but the Venetian blinds were closed. The closed room obscured the outside view. The room was devoid of any sunlight. It was grey again. Grey signifies moral decadence, disillusionment, and bleakness.
Ram is 'Daisy' in green here; Green is hope, new beginnings.
V is 'Gatsby' in red. The color of blood serves as a warning of the violent intentions. Red also foreshadows the insecurity that V [Gatsby] is facing. Daisy's dock – "longing hope of reunion with Daisy."
Pri is in Indian blue and white. Indian blue is associated with loyalty and purity, innocence for white.
Like last time, this time also Ram unchained himself and followed Pri, leaving V behind again, to the parking lot for another round of the fight. This time, though, they both came to the [sun]light.
I loved the use of colors, setting, and parallelism in both scenes, kudos to the EK camp for pulling it through! ❤️
I'm not a fan of The Great Gatsby, but I laud your pulling out these parallels.
It's a fascinating comparison, and, coincidentally, I'm re-watching those early episodes and just saw the yellow dress one you referenced. Yessss, that is it. Vedika was an illusion, the unattainable prize Ram never achieved and who grew into a myth in his mind. He almost enjoyed his longing and his angst, maybe because it was all he had, more than a life devoid of love altogether, and far less than he could have, had he let go. Yet, each time Priya appeared, even getting up his nose, long before any feelings manifested, the illusion was inadvertently pushed back.
Office scene makes sense too. However, I still have doubts that the writers work this with intent. They do much too much shoddy work for me to credit them, so I'll credit you instead. :)

It's amazing the way you observe these things, and join the dots and put them together in this mesmerizing read ... Mind-blowing, beautiful, absolute treat to read ❤️ and I went back to watch those scenes and see the meaning... Thank you 😊
Sorry i am just learning to use tags 😳can't edit the above post to add one.

It took me a while to grasp the meaning and the feeling of what you're trying to convey. There were lines where I just went back trying to memorise how beautiful it was.
I was already ecstatic with the episode and your drabble made me fall all the more in love with this show.
I love Priya a little too much that my heart explodes each time she gets hurt. I have to thank IF and all these beautiful members for making me understand her even better.
Your understanding of Ram and Priya, the colours, the rain, the dialogues it was Legendary! Dissecting those marking points completed the scene.
When I question myself for watching a EK show after more than 5 years, I'll be coming back to read this.
If you ever create a book club, do let me know.
Thank you for putting the time and effort in writing this masterpiece.
Thank you! I also never realized I would ever watch an EK show. That being said, I returned to ITV after a decade only because the early episodes were worth it to make m break the sabbatical.
I know they may not be thinking exactly on the lines I analyzed but the characters, story, colors, and the setting made me look at the parallels between the book and BALH 2.
Oh, that is a wonderful idea of a book club; you gave me a direction. Let me sit on it. ❤️

Thank you! The early episodes really were an inspiration. They were thoughtful and inspirational.
The characters in The Great Gatsby and in BALH 2 have similar sketches but those two scenes painted the parallelism.

I am also not a fan of The Great Gatsby. There were some parallels for sure in those two episodes that is very similar to the book in terms of colors the characters are associated with.
I am always doubtful that the creatives will even think along these lines. They need to be very good readers in the first place not only the writers but also the art people, set designers, directors etc. I don't know whether this was just lucky chance stance or properly planned episodes.

Aww. Thank you! I am so happy my writeup made you watch the beautiful episodes again. Those episodes were really worth multiple views.

Thank you for a wonderful read again. When I first read the title, I did not relate it to colours since I have never really given any thought to colour symbolism before. So it was a surprise and a different perspective. The parallels - from the green of the dock to the gold of the pencil to the grey of the ashes and the pink suit of Gatsby, also the blue lawn later; absolutely brilliant. And now that I think about it, colours did play a major role in both your analysis’ previously. I learnt something new:).
My initial thought was that your post would be related to Real vs Illusion/dream. How Ram idealises Vedika in the beginning because of her grace and beauty and as time goes by, decorates her with qualities no longer true to the Real Vedika (‘It had gone beyond her, beyond everything’). That’s how Vedika became his illusion. The first scene you mention, slightly before that Ram tells his friends, “Yaar Vedu kitni caring hai. Apne pati ke liye kitna sochti hai. Aaj candle light dinner prepare kiya hai.” It is obvious that he loves these qualities which have the face of Vedika in his mind. It gives him a sense of purpose, belonginess. So, when Priya comes along(the daisy of Gatsby’s dreams), the embodiment of all those qualities, he found it easy to fall in love with her. Not surprising as he had loved those qualities all along rather than the real Vedika. It is here that he stops being Gatsby as he was able to leave his dream of Vedika behind.
Meanwhile in the office scene, the dynamics change and Vedika becomes Gatsby. We see her running after a dream not realising it is already behind her, trying her best to bring the past back (‘You can’t repeat the past. Why of course you can’) and ultimately destroying herself (mental breakdown) like Gatsby.
(I know the above has nothing to do with colour symbolism but your post made me think and I wanted to share. Definitely no wish to convert your thread to the book club which btw i would love to be a part of, if ever you form one.)
I like how you always send me back to books. It was great revisiting TGG through the lens of BALH2. Thank you <3.
Thanks babe. I am posting another one with the parallelism of subconscious and conscious been treated in the past week. Hope you'll like it.
