It’s been a while since I have been active on India forums and I wasn’t sure if I should post this or not. I have actually never started a topic and I am pretty nervous since this will be the first post on this forum. However, I have gathered all my courage and decided to make this topic. I am excited to hear you guys’s thoughts about the episode as well.

Pros:

The best part about the episode was the message they conveyed through Diya’s hair. Everyone in this world has this one thing about themselves that they are really confident about. For some, it’s their eyes, for others, their smile. Even something really small that no one else can notice but you can boost your confidence. I have a small mole in the corner of my eye. I am pretty sure that no one else even realizes that it’s there, but whenever I see myself in the mirror with that mole, I feel extremely beautiful to myself. Just like that, Diya was very confident about her hair. She took care of it and throughout the show, you can see how much she values it. Her softly running her hands through her hair in her introduction scene and touching her hair after she was insulted in the Plaza was very well done. Then, as all the negative things she had to experience due to her hair, and her mom’s (illogical) scolding started weighing down on her, she decided to take it out on her precious hair. The hair that she had took such good care of, she cut it without a single thought. I found that scene very touching and relatable. A lot of times in life, no matter how confident you are or how high your self-esteem is, there comes a point where people’s judgements takes a toll on your mental health and you are forced to take extreme actions.

Other than the beautifully delivered message, I really liked the acting on this show. It felt very natural. I also liked how they spent the whole episode setting up the Female lead’s family.

Cons:

I am not liking the sister. I found her very insensitive when Diya was telling her about how her neighbor was hitting on her. It was obvious that it wasn’t a compliment given with good intentions, but she still took it very lightly and compared it with how boys complimented her.I am getting the vibes that she feels superior to her sister because of her white skin. Or maybe I am reading too much into it.

The sister part was the only one that I didn’t like. Other than that, the execution was good and I hope they delve more into the mother-daughter relationship. I would love to see the mom’s character growing and standing up for her daughter in front of the Mohalla people and against the disgusting Chhada. Though I don’t have much expectations of this happening since it is mainly a love-story.

In all it was a beautiful episode and I hope it keeps going up from here ❤️

Thank you for the detailed review. Sounds interesting, the promos were intriguing as well.

I will wait for a couple of episodes to start watching.

Completely agree that there are even small things that boost our confidence but ultimately we are humans who fall victim to the society judgments at some point since we can only have that threshold of sustaining. Looks like well depicted by makers.

Yes, it was shown very beautifully ❤️ The show feels very simple compared to the other shows that are on air rn and I hope it keeps it’s simplicity and doesn’t try to be over dramatic. I am tired of shows like Ghum where every second of the show feels draining

🤗

Thank you for posting❤️. That was lovely. Like you I too had been away from IF for years and only recently started delving into it again. A lot had changed in the meantime!😳😆

Your review cemented in me deciding if I want to see this show. I got some information the other day and was very intrigued but you know as well as I do how some of this shows can be and I was still hesitating. There was another show on SP few years back with similar theme but when I watched it all I saw was insults and weird things to bring home the discrimination. I really hope this show explores a bit more boldly especially the mental health toll it takes on someone to be constantly derided for something they have no control over. At the end of the day, we all bleed the same colour!

I haven't watched the episodes yet but am planning to by the weekend so hopefully I can contribute more once I have done.

I'm Freddie. 🤗

I binge watched Mon- Thurs and can I say I have really high expectations from the show now!👍🏼

So I'm in the UK and Starplus does not show credits so I would love to know who the writer is, can you tell me? also as I understand basic hindi could you tell me what the title of the show means?

The first episode established the theme very strongly. I really liked that. But I'm left wondering is discrimination that prevalent in India? I guess I am trying to say is how realistic is the show?

I hope the writers continue to show Diya's strength and intelligence and actually focus the story on that. I really, really hope once she is married they do not start focusing on how she should dress, do make up and etc.

It was heart breaking to watch her being looked down for her skin colour and her intelligence and experience overlooked in the job - honestly she should sue them for discrimination!😡 but by this bar, I found it a touch filmy for her to be then allowed to stand up in front of umpteen media and take over! but I guess they just wanted us to see she thinks on her feet.

Loved the male lead and appreciated this refreshing first meet rather than the usual filmy, wind blowing in the air while a song plays in the background.😆 I really hope they continue to be always the two people we saw in these episodes.

Coming to her family, well they are full of flaws like any other families out there but the thread of love is obvious and I hope it remains always like that. The younger sister is immature but really feels for Diya so she has my approval for the moment. The mother is very realistically portrayed who worries about her unmarried daughter and often her frustration/anger/sadness makes her lips loose. But you can see her heart is in the right place. I did get a funny vibe with the second sister and her husband but let's see how it goes.

Really looking forward to the misunderstanding about Pakhi...it was obvious it would happen.

One thing I am confused about - his mum sent him over when it looked like she could not wait to get out the moment she saw Diya. So why did she sent him? is it because she liked Diya or because she wanted her son to see her and reject Diya and therefore absolve her of any guilt/blame for rejecting the alliance? I didn't like the sister and can see her causing problems after Diya and Armaan get married.

The writer of this show Rajita sharma. I am guessing she was the writer of Yeh Rishta s1 and she also wrote Patiala Babes.

The title of the show in literal sense means “these lowered eyes” but figuratively, I think it’s suppose to refer to the shyness of a lover since a lowered eye is typically associated with shyness.

About discrimination in India, it very much is prevalent. I am not sure if you will be refused a job for your skin color, but you will definitely hear many mean things in life. In fact, even if people compliment you, they will be sure to add “Kali hain, lekin….”

Coming to Diya, I think she doesn’t minds dressing-up but the constant rejection she has faced has caused her to lose her self-esteem. I think the show will focus on how Armaan makes her confident about herself and show that looks aren’t everything.

Now that you pointed it out, I kind of see the flaw in writing when the manager or who ever the man is allowed Dia to stand up in the stage, representing the whole Hotel when he didn’t even want his guests seeing her in the hotel 😕

I agree that it was refreshing to see a non-dramatic first meet of the leads 👍🏼

Also, I take back what I said about the sister, Palki 😆. She is a nice girl and I hope they keep her that way. I think they might pair her up with Armaan’s younger brother.

Actually, in the episode, the mom was okay with Diya. She was a little surprised when she saw her but she was willing to stay when the family asked, it was the sister of the ML who was in a rush to get out of there. I think she is also the one who will create all the drama in the wedding.

p.s Sorry for the late reply
