It’s been a while since I have been active on India forums and I wasn’t sure if I should post this or not. I have actually never started a topic and I am pretty nervous since this will be the first post on this forum. However, I have gathered all my courage and decided to make this topic. I am excited to hear you guys’s thoughts about the episode as well.
Pros:
The best part about the episode was the message they conveyed through Diya’s hair. Everyone in this world has this one thing about themselves that they are really confident about. For some, it’s their eyes, for others, their smile. Even something really small that no one else can notice but you can boost your confidence. I have a small mole in the corner of my eye. I am pretty sure that no one else even realizes that it’s there, but whenever I see myself in the mirror with that mole, I feel extremely beautiful to myself. Just like that, Diya was very confident about her hair. She took care of it and throughout the show, you can see how much she values it. Her softly running her hands through her hair in her introduction scene and touching her hair after she was insulted in the Plaza was very well done. Then, as all the negative things she had to experience due to her hair, and her mom’s (illogical) scolding started weighing down on her, she decided to take it out on her precious hair. The hair that she had took such good care of, she cut it without a single thought. I found that scene very touching and relatable. A lot of times in life, no matter how confident you are or how high your self-esteem is, there comes a point where people’s judgements takes a toll on your mental health and you are forced to take extreme actions.
Other than the beautifully delivered message, I really liked the acting on this show. It felt very natural. I also liked how they spent the whole episode setting up the Female lead’s family.
Cons:
I am not liking the sister. I found her very insensitive when Diya was telling her about how her neighbor was hitting on her. It was obvious that it wasn’t a compliment given with good intentions, but she still took it very lightly and compared it with how boys complimented her.I am getting the vibes that she feels superior to her sister because of her white skin. Or maybe I am reading too much into it.
The sister part was the only one that I didn’t like. Other than that, the execution was good and I hope they delve more into the mother-daughter relationship. I would love to see the mom’s character growing and standing up for her daughter in front of the Mohalla people and against the disgusting Chhada. Though I don’t have much expectations of this happening since it is mainly a love-story.
In all it was a beautiful episode and I hope it keeps going up from here ❤️
