Chachi 420 is such a wholesome movie, a complete family entertainer.
I revisited the movie today and it still makes me laugh. I watched it multiple times in childhood but even today the jokes and story don't feel dated.
Not only was it hilarious in Chachi parts but the story is well etched.
It captures the pathos of a father's love for his daughter. The father-daughter bond was so beautiful.
Also, as a child I never paid attention t the Kamal-Tabu story, being more interested in the antics of Chachi, but the story of the lovers-to-estranged spouses story was depicted well. The initial blinders of love wearing off to pave way for financial problems and unfilled desires led Janki back to her father's house.
And Kamal is a powerhouse performer. I could clearly see his classical dance training via his 'Chachi' enactment. The nuances and grace with which he portrays the female part is great. He might be only Indian actor to slip into female role so gracefully and believably without appearing like a man in drag. For once in Hindi films, I did not have to rely on suspension of belief or movie logic that the heroine was unable to recognize her husband. Kamal was that good.
Tabu was amazing as well and looks so refreshing. Her look in 'Jaago Gorin was love.
And special mention to Amrish Puri. What a wonderful performance. Paresh Rawal and Johny Walker were great as well.
What are your thoughts on the movie??
