I agree on 90s and 00s actresses.

But I would disagree on Sridevi and Madhuri. Alka Yagnik'd voice suited Madhuri the best and it sounded as if Madhuri herself was singing. All of her hits are songs by Alka except HAHK songs.

Sridevi's screen voice was Kavita Krishnamurthy who even changed her voice a bit to suit Sridevi's real voice - which is evident in songs of Chaalbaaz, Mr India, Nigahen, Khuda Gawah. Kavita tried to incorporate Sridevi's real life voice in Kabse mere peeche pada tha, Gadbad ho gayi and other songs of Chaalbaaz, for which Kavita deserves credit as very few singers change their style of singing as per actor they sing for. Among male singers only Kishore da had talent of changing his own voice as per actors he used to sing for.

Though I agree Lata's voices suited till only 80s and early 90s era actresses more.

The two songs I mentioned are the most iconic songs of Sridevi and Madhuri and they would not have been iconic if Lata Dee's voice was not a perfect match.

Anyways, let's agree to disagree then.

Oh I forgot about one more actress.

Lata's voice perfectly suited Kajol as well. Especially in the iconic songs of Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge.

Wow I just went thru all the pages 😆

But anyways, here are my two cents. You can agree to disagree.

Lataji continued singing till the 2000s mainly because producers like Yash Chopra wanted her. Check out the songs she sang in those years. Almost every film where she was singing for the lead heroine is a YRF film.

Coming to Veer-Zaara, the songs were said to be composed by Madan Mohan, plus it was a YRF film, so bringing Lataji on board was kinda the obvious choice from the producer's viewpoint, and it was also a good marketing tactic.

Most of the female singers who debuted in the 90s can't even sing live anymore while they are either nearing 60 or have just crossed 60. Lataji still had a lot of energy in her voice when she was that age. It might have not been like the 1960s or 70s, but singing for actresses when she had entered the senior citizen category was incredible. I think her voice suited Madhuri and Sridevi easily, and I loved her voice in the songs of Vansh too.

Obviously, like every singer out there, Lataji's voice aged as time went by. She was singing for heroines till the age of 75 which is a marvellous feat. And yes, she did sound off in Veer-Zaara, simply because her age would not allow her to sing the way she could in the past. Maybe she understood that herself and gradually gave up singing for films. Since her voice had aged, obviously she would not sound good with the younger singers. So its a normal change.
