I'm glad she did not raise the other boys because I wonder how much more toxic they would be. I know for a fact that gombi was raised solely by his father because suman is too evil to give such an upbringing. Her words for Raavi are foul and if those words were said to me I would slap her. I would throw hands I dont care about her age. If she wants shiva to feel good then talk to the child. Dont force another marriage because when he decides on a divorce again are you going to bring more girls. You cant put a band aid over a stab wound. Heal it slowly and properly. Suman is egotistical and a goon. I dont know why everyone is scared of her. She should go to jail for her crimes. Shiva too but that's a comment for another day. I will not forget her pulling Dhara's hair when the poor girl was trying to help her. Even when she could not move or talk she still was vile. If they copy one track from the OG I hope its her death. I hope before they kill her off the mirror of her ugly insides are shown to her.

Lovely topic Prema, as always you have hit the mark.

Thank you for commenting. I agree with you that she did not raise Gautam instead it was their Dad, But she has a strong hold on all 4 of them that it is suffocating to see how she influences, forces them to do things her way. She gets away with every abuse, vile act she does and the family is a mute spectator of all her abuses. In real world, one complaint, Suman and her 4 heere jiase bete will be in jail. I hope someday this happens in the show and they need to be shown the mirror and not get away with any kind of abuse.

As for Shiva, I have given up on him. Suman has made marriage his ultimate goal and not job or other things in life. It is pathetic to see a 23 yr old being manipulated by his mom into believing that his current wife is not a good fit for him as he deserves pyaar and izzat where in he treats her like a piece of crap.

This topic of Suman’s abuse of utmost concern in this show. The makers justifying her and touting her to be a Mahaan is something unacceptable. Just like you I will never like her if she is made positive. For me as a character she is worthless who cares about none except herself and her heere jaise bete.

Bold@Premziee you can not say that also now , she doesn’t care about her sons until they are in her control and don’t go against her also now but her damn BIG FAT EGO which is the utmost priority of hers.Thats why she likes disha because Disha feeds her ego by listening to her.

Hello Prema Akka....🤗 My essay is here!!!!

As a viewer, I used to love Suman initially.... The only pre leap episodes I ever watched were the Gaura wedding sequence, and a few of the introduction episodes in which you clearly see Suman's dislike for Dhara... I did initially feel that she was extremely regressive, but watching post leap episodes after that, I had begun to see her as a gray character.

And because I'm not someone who needs characters to be black and white, I enjoyed her. She had a kind of old school feminist feel to her, someone who mostly (when not blinded by emotion), saw every side's mistakes what with her age and experiences in life, but still was too old school to actually go against the expectations of a patriarchal society. She did support her DILs occassionally in the pre Yatra Kaand days. I loved her in particular right after the Yatra Kaand.

And then things went downhill. On a whole other level. Moral ambiguity I understood and accepted. But whatever happened to Suman Pandya after that falls on the makers. I will be completely honest when I say that the last time I watched a complete scene of hers was when she first blamed Raavi for not understanding that the man she was about to get married to did not love her (right after Dhara and Raavi's kitchen conversation post Raavi's return from her Maasi's place).

What she has done by bringing in Disha is a whole other level of murder of the character. In my head, I always give Mami free passes for being a good mother figure to Raavi. She might have her own agendas that she uses her daughter for, but she does see Raavi's emotions. She does care for her feelings even when she disagrees.

She knows Raavi doesn't want to move on from Shiva and her marriage to him. She says he does not want you, why do you wait for him? She's brought in boys and tried to talk Raavi into agreeing for a marriage, yes. But she hasn't laid down the law and said you have no choice but to accept. A morally ambiguous character, gray not black. Dislikes at times, but acceptable.

I might have looked past Suman as a bad MIL if they had given her a good redemption instead of flipping her at the last moment (highly unlikely, but as you know, DREAMER...), but a bad mother? A bad mother will never be able to accept her DIL, because a woman who dies not care for her own child's choices has no motive to accept his wife. Even in real life, of what I've observed, MIL's who have issues with their sons end up accepting them at least initially for the sake of their sons. She has failed at this step itself.

Her disregarding Shiva's care and concern for Raavi as something that he will be able to move in with only if she provided him with the right partner? It's laughable. She is not willing him to give him space. She is not willing to put her child's mental well being and peace of mind above the perceived insults her DIL has thrown his way. She is offended on behalf of a man who doesn't consider those offences as such.

Suman, first and foremost, stops needing to think as the head, the sethani of the family, and start thinking solely as a mother. There is no other way her character is ever getting redeemed.

PS Sometimes I wonder what Krittika mam must be thinking... She seemed very happy with the reverse psychology plot, but what with the writers doing a paltu with her character, how must she feel playing such a regressive role? I hope Suman is somehow redeemed solely so that I may enjoy her stellar acting in peace once again. ❤️

Sathya, thank you so much for commenting on this topic. This needs all the visibility and traction possible.

I would have been happier if they kept her grey with occasional taunts and insults. She questioned the existence of Dhara, pre-leap and she is doing the same thing with Raavi again. When Rishita tries to speak up, her family is brought in and insulted with no support from Dev.

As for what she is doing with Shiva, it is her ego and her revenge against Raavi that is sick to even watch. She is going against a 21 yr old girl when your won 23 yr old son is fault even more. She is just blinded by her love for her heere jaisa bete, she is unable to see right or wrong. She is doing the same mistake that Dhara did when she asked Shiva to marry Raavi back at the wedding.

Suman and her old thoughts are creepy, not viable in the present day scenario but her zidd is coming in between and sees that everything happens her way. Even on couples competition day, she told Kanta that she will one day, get her sons back from being PCs and will tie them in her aanchal. No educated, well mannered, cultured mother would say that. Suman's upbringing and her regressive thoughts she grew up with are showing it's true colors now.

Also her heere jaise betes not supporting the DILs inspite of constant abuse and the DILs not able to defend themselves shown to have lack of respect is appalling to me.

In a nut shell, Suman is a bad sethani and a even worse mother whose thinking will never expand and will never and adapt to the society today and makers feel to justify every action of hers😕

I agree with her ego. She cannot see her sons slipping away from her, leaves no attempt to call them PCs and even made a vow to Kanta during the couples competition that she will bring them all back from their wives and tie them in her aanchal. So she has started with Shiva and found Disha to be perfect for her plan. Disha definitely feeds her ego and in the future she will be able to control Disha to her whims and fancies and hence hell bent on getting rid of Raavi from Shiva's life. She thinks Shiva will find love after he marries Disha which is also totally wrong, means she doesn't know her son at all.

Yes though she has the idea that Shiva likes or loves Raavi and also knows if she understands and explains him calmly , he will listen to her and cancel the divorce but she will not do that and why ? Not because Raavi ne Shiva ko thappad mara but Raavi ne Suman ke bete ko thappad maara indirectly uska ego bruise kiya.

What you have mentioned is absolutely right!!!

The show has made a mockery of abuse; they are doing it in the name of comedy…

It is a family oriented show and I am pretty sure a lot of women watch it, imagine them thinking it is “funny”, it is disgusting..

There is a difference between being a strict parent and an abusive one…

The actress is amazing but the way she delivers her dialogues, it irritates me…just want to say “ABUSE IS NOT FUNNY”

Thank you, Prema for this post…it was much needed ❤️

Thank you for commenting. It pains to see the makers and few others giving justification that it is only a fiction and it happens in real life. If so, then why make it known and give more visibility. As you said, add a comedy BGM and make it all look funny. Such abuse in the long run will have repercussions which are irreversible sometimes.

Makers have made her look like somebody, who is never wrong and knows it all. To see mute sons not questioning their mother’s actions and DILs not able to stand up for themselves due to lack os self respect is appalling.
She as a character is plain disgusting. Bo amount of whitewashing is going to make me like her.

Suman is the worst character ever written on itv ...

The way she behave actually terrorized the person for she is a terrorist jo gunpoint apna kaam karati hai...

She tortures in all possible way physically mentally n emotionally ...

I remember when she threw the money on reshita face after next when reshita question dev that y his mother is pissed off with me only jab we both r at fault then dev takes stand for her mother n says also tells reshita to put efforts n tells her to inspire from dhara n impress his mother...

I was like bullshit I would slapped dev first n then Suman two slapped ...

Evn the way she treated mami during haveli time I was nt k with it..

The way pushes everyone , throwing chappal water glass n using danda ... She actually used dandiya on raavi belly n hurt her that I was pissed off so much more than that kiss khand ... I

was like Raavi y taking so much shit atleast nw giv her back nw.. if I m nt wrong she called raavi panuti n the way she keeps name for everyone is another shit...

If anyone insult her heera beta hav prob bt she insults day in n out all dil parents uska kya...

If my in-laws insult my parents then I make sure it's their worst day of their life...

Evn in diwali seq the way she commented on raavi while giving blessings n related to food which she won't gt at her masi was so cheap I cn give all gaalis to her ...

Reshita ki family ko jis tarah she speaks is utter nonsense... If Janardhan is gunda then she is also gundi n her heera beta r also gundas...

Suman has so much shit in the show more than dhara fainting ... That to list down it will make us insane...
