Bhabhi's Generation Next

Tilak (Manish Goyal) and Saroj (Dolly Sohi) of the afternoon soap Bhabhi on Star Plus have grown older — and wiser.
This UTV daily takes a generation leap from its June 2 episode. Both will now be shown married as to someone else with grown-up kids on the verge of marriage.
There is a whole bunch of new faces with several existing characters getting the hack. Here's a look at who is who post the leap… TILAK (Manish Goyal)
He is now married to Meenakshi (Paayal Nair), sister of the vitriolic Manju (Shilpa Shinde) and is a business magnate. Says Goyal, "Initially, I did have reservations about playing the role post the leap. But the producers convinced me to do the role.
Tilak is now more dignified and his body language is restrained. At one end is my strained relationship with my son Vishv (Puneet Sachdev) and the other is my unhappy marriage to Meenakshi."
Goyal says he took voice classes to achieve a mature baritone. He has also pulled back his mop from his forehead. AMMU (Dolly Sohi)
Is she Saroj? Or is she her look-alike? Amisha, or Ammu, is married to Vivek Seth (Mahesh Thakur). Vivek had saved her from drowning. In the process he lost his wife so Ammu marries him to look after his two daughters Alpa (Pariva Pranati) and Suhana (Rucha Gujarathi).
Says Sohi, "As Saroj, I was calm and composed, but Ammu is extremely bubbly and also a forgetful character. I will now be wearing plain saris with printed blouses and hair tied into a neat bun."
Sohi, who recently married Canada-based Avneet Dhanowa, says, "I told him that I am already the mother of two grown-up children and he wanted to know if I was going to sport white hair!" VISHV (Puneet Sachdev)
He is Tilak and Saroj's son. A spoilt brat, he is the boxing champ in college. He shows no concern for his father but does care for his foster mother Meenakshi.
Says Sachdev, "He is a very cool character and always has his way. Only when he falls in love does he realise what pain means."
Sachdev had earlier featured in a few episodes of the Star weekly Saara Akash as Sarfaraz, a Pakistani terrorist. He is also seen as the dhakkan in the Fanta ad featuring Rani Mukerji. "I came down from Gwalior to model and act. Things are finally in perspective now," says Sachdev. SUHANA (Rucha Gujarathi)
She is the fun-loving, hyperactive younger daughter of Vivek Seth (Mahesh Thakur), and is greatly dependant on her foster mother Ammu and her older sister Alpa. She studies at the same college as Vish (Puneet Sachdev).
Gujarathi, who is seen as Kali in Kkusum, feels this role is in stark contrast to the negative image of Kali. "It will show me in different light," she says. ALPA (Pariva Pranati)
She is the Vivek Seth's older daughter. An introvert, she teaches at a primary school. Though her sister is unlike her in nature, there is this great bonding between them.
This is Pranati's television debut; she has done theatre previously with Om Katare of Yatri stage troupe. SHUBHAM (Mohit Raina)
He is the son of Tilak and Saroj who was given away by Tilak to his flame Roshani (Rupali Ganguly). Roshani blames Tilak for the death of her fianc Raj (Rohit Roy) and later claims the child is dead.
Now, the serial will show Shubham as an architect working with Tilak and both are unaware of the other's identity. "I'm from Jammu and have been here looking for a break. It finally happened," says Raina. VIVEK SETH (Mahesh Thakur)
He is the new man in Saroj's life, now known as Ammu. He plays the doting father to his two daughters and is a complete family-loving man.

The June 2 episode will show Tilak at a temple remembering Saroj. It is 20 years since Saroj fell off the cliff and went missing. Outside the temple are Vivek Seth with his wife Amisha and their two daughters Alpa and Suhana.
Tilak is shocked to see that Amisha bears a strong resemblance to Saroj! Later, it will be shown that Tilak is married to Meenakshi, Manju's sister.
After Saroj's death, the family advises him to marry Meenakshi for the sake of his son Vish. Tilak and Meenakshi's marriage is not a happy one as Tilak hasn't been able to forget Saroj. Vishv harbours ill feelings towards his father due to the strained relations between Tilak and Meenakshi.
To add to the drama, Suhana and Vishv study in the same college with a romantic track. While Shubham works in Tilak's office, unaware that Tilak is his father.
He is the offspring of Tilak and Saroj who was given away to Tilak's flame Roshani and later assumed dead! Alpa will be shown falling for Shubham. My wife's daughter is my daughter-in-law!
Manish Goyal as Tilak in Bhabhi will now have Rucha Gujarathi, who plays Suhana, as his son Vishv's girlfriend and a prospective daughter-in-law. In Kkusum, Rucha is Manish's real life wife Poonam 'Mahi' Narula's screen daughter Kali.
Also, in the Star show Shararat, Poonam plays Radha while her husband in the show is Suraj (Mahesh Thakur). In Bhabhi, Mahesh will play the other man in Manish's screen wife Saroj's life | | |
'Bhabhi' gets ready to welcome Gen Next

freshers to help keep the serial afloat. The serial will go into fast forward mode on 2 June, with the introduction of Puneet Sachdev and Mohit Raina who will play the male leads - Vishv and Shubham.
The young lads have much more in common than having Bhabhi as their first noticeable break. Puneet played Sarfaraz in Star Plus' Saara Akash and then did ads for Panasonic, South Malabar Gold, and the Fanta kya dhakkan hai ad with Rani Mukherjee. Mohit played a cameo in a serial that he is not willing to talk about.
Both hail from small towns. While Puneet is from Gwalior, Mohit comes from Jammu.
"I have lived in Gwalior all my life. I completed my education there. But in a small town there is nothing much to do. I often spent my time playing cricket or watching movies," Puneet reminisces.
While it took a long time for both to realise that acting is their calling, their parents had different dreams for them. "I wanted to become a cricketer. I represented Madhya Pradesh in the under 16 and under 19 categories. At some point I also wanted to get into the defence forces, but failed the National Defence Academy test. I ended up doing MBA because my father wanted it," narrates Puneet.
Mohit laughs, "My parents wanted me to become a chartered accountant. But I flunked the test. In the mean time I worked with Hyundai."
Mohit Raina: wants to make it big with 'Bhabhi'

Both have had a fair share of struggles too. Puneet says, "The first time I came here, I stayed for just six days. I felt so homesick that I went back and didn't return for six months. (like Hrithik Roshan in Lakshya???). Then I returned with maturity and patience."
Mohit says, "I came to Mumbai for the first time nine months ago and kept frequenting offices of production houses. I could successfully reach the production house gate but never beyond that. The watchman would never let me in. Once, a watchman who I thought was very kind told me that the person concerned came only between 11 pm and 1 am. I thought it was very odd yet made it to the office at midnight only to realise that it was a joke. I was fed up with the way things were moving but not once did I think of returning."
Was life difficult then? Says Puneet, "One should come to Mumbai if he wants to feel sad." And Mohit ? "When I came to Mumbai I was nervous about how people would treat me".
Life in Mumbai has also been amusing for Mohit. "I had heard a lot about Lonavla. So I decided to go there. But there is hardly any beauty there. It is nothing compared to Kashmeer," he bursts out laughing. "I intend to go to Mahabaleshwar now. Let's see how it looks," he says.
Incidentally, both are Leos. Is it any surprise that the two intend to share an apartment too now?
