Hard to respond since you've chunked both our responses together.
You are going in circles. I've already been through what they meant by calling their collection Jashn E Riwaaz and what the character in the ad meant by puranas being 'fake'.
PP: What you said was your opinion , you cannot state it as a fact like that's what they meant. You & me both weren't in their head , so we can draw our own opinions on it.
If anything it's an attack on theism and not on any particular religion. Which is exactly why the definition of 'secular' you quoted is applicable here. And you can't call it 'disrespect ' because ultimately whether God exists or not is debatable and we as believers or non believers can't really prove anything one way or the other . It's not very 'democratic' to say that an atheist cannot celebrate a festival the way he or she wants to.
PP: Just like its disrespectful to attack atheism, similarly its also disrespectful to attack theism. Sonce God hasn't been proved or disproved , both POV's can peacefully co exist without one feeling tge urge to put down the other. Why would an atheist celebrate any religious festival? I can understand an agnostic doing that but an atheist wouldn't. It isn't democratic to say a person who dissent with something should keep quiet & ignore things.
Plenty of people including Hindus celebrate Christmas without getting into the birth of Jesus or any of that. Is that an attack on Christianity?
PP: My point exactly. They dont get into it at all, not modify it to suit their needs or call it fake or unrelatable. How can not getting into something be an attack? Its neutrality or indifference.
Feelings ,when aren't based on facts ,but are based on imagined insults , would be dismissed. For example if I claim your username is offensive to skinny women I will be laughed at or ignored. I'll be dismissed for sure .
PP: Yes, but I wouldn't be expected to just ignore you say, if you are claiming something inaccurate about my UN and move on without expressing my dissent to you.
When I said the ad can be ignored , I was speaking as a practising Hindu who isn't that keen on that line about the puranas. Sure , people have the right to not-ignore it but then so does FabIndia to call their clothes whatever the hell they want to .
PP: Someone who is keen on Puranas may not appreciate the ad. Whether you think is right or wrong, I think you can understand where their cribbing is coming from.
Personally, I have no problems with FabIndia or any other company putting any ad they like. On the contrary, I would like to be more aware of what a Company's idealogy is. So companies can post any ad they like, people can appreciate what they want, others can ignore what they want & still others can criticize whatever they feel like, within some lines of decency & without being told which group you must fall into.
