I enjoy web stories more. Those pieces of fiction are exciting and fast. One thing that gets me going is that they are appreciated as pieces of fiction rather than being measured on moral yardsticks whether you look at Bombay Begums, Bulbul or any other.
There's an ambiguity that makes it a fascinating watch.
ITV has the habit of dragging, but ambiguous storytelling keeps me interested; perhaps, I am enjoying the Disha track because of this sole reason.
I probably would sleep if I had to see progress, conversations and pati-patni stuff.
Pieces of fiction becoming interesting if the characters are ambiguous fall in the grey area. The problem with ITV is glorification. Tell, and anecdote should be more like it. But, sadly, the content is based on TG.
In short, it's not easy to create content given the diverse, multicultural background we have.
Also, would like to point Out a Stark difference In the Way, ITV portrays male & female agency which is extremely sad.
The angst of Shiva vs the comical jealousy of Raavi.
Gender disparity is so widespread in our society, especially on ITV is that a woman is shown to be oblivious of men trying to take advantage. At the same time, the hero misunderstands the intentions, while men getting advances from females are shown to be comical.
Later, it becomes the fault of the third woman who turns negative, and women fight with the woman rather than coming across as heavy-handed towards a man.
That's the lack of agency a woman has in society.
Anyway, I could probably go on and on around this.
I enjoy web series too, for the fast paced storytelling and gray characters.. and I understand how storytelling full of simplicity and conversations can sound boring.. many of us need "tadka" in the story like KD mentioned in his interview 😆
The one thing I don't like about this Disha track is the way the label of "characterless" has been brought on Shiva because of this.. he has been butchered 🤡
@bold: my biggest peeve with this track! I posted multiple times on previous threads that I wish we got an angsty, intense reaction from Raavi the way we got from Shiva even at simple conversations between Raavi and her friends.
Instead we get comedy reactions when Raavi sees her husband with a potential future partner 🤦
Women making advances on men are shown as comical and it is implicitly assumed that the man will always like it
Like you mentioned, Disha will eventually turn negative here because the writers can't or won't handle her track positively 🙃
I can only remember one show where there was a triangle where there were two women and a man and both women were positive! The writers didn't know how to handle that and killed one of the women ultimately 🤪
I dislike that a lot in ITV, and web series are definitely better in this regard, thought they aren't quite there yet either
