Chapter 10

After celebrating the success of the project receiving funding from the investors, in the back of the storeroom, Manish and Rakhi headed home leaving Raavi and Shiva in the storeroom alone.

Shiva walked over, and sat on the chair next to Raavi. “Aaj naa bahut khush hoon Raavi! Somnath mein Silicon Valley ka level 1 paar kiya”

“Main bhi Shiva, tu dekh na, humare class ke log or baaki sab bhi na iss news ke baad Rohan se zyada tujhe successful maanenge”

“Rohan” Shiva said as he felt his heart crush once again. He stood up and began to say with despondency in his voice “Phir se Rohan. Tera matlab Rohan se zyaada successful hona hai, samaj gaya. Woh San Francisco mein, aur main somnath mein. Uski job ek badi MNC mein aur mera ek storeroom mein. Tere liye toh hamesha se Rohan hi great tha. Main nahi.”

Raavi got up in urgency “Shiva, tu mujhe phir se galat samajh raha hai.”

Shiva sat down resting his back on a shelf and tears began rolling from his eyes as he said, “Har gaya Raavi, Phir se haar gaya.”

“Shiva” Raavi tried to reason with him as she knelt next to him.

“Ek baat bata Raavi, tu ne mujhe itna bhi great nahi mana?” Shiva said getting up.

“Tujhe yaad hai tu kaise thi jab Maami ke ghar se aayi thi? ‘Woh dekh Shiva, tera poster’ ‘Phir se top kiya tu ne Shiva’ tere aankon mein mere liye awe tha, excitement thi” Shiva said walking across the room back and forth as he imitated how Raavi spoke to him two years go.

Raavi too stood up perplexed.

“Main na humesha tere aankhon mein woh feeling dekhna chahtha tha, par tu ne kya kiya? Tu first aayi, hum equal ho gaye. Main dar gaya Raavi, mujhe laga main tere saamne worthless ho jaaunga. Issi liye.. Issi liye.. maine cheat kiya, teri padai ko sabotage kar ke pada.” Shiva continued to speak and his voice was filled with despair.

Raavi froze. She didn’t know how to react. Shiva thought he was worthless?

“Lekin meri kismat dekho, woh Rohan first aaya. Main phir se dara, kahin woh Rohan tere liye great na ho jaaye. Issi liye maine tere saath compromise kiya. Din, raat, bina neend ke, bina khane ke, padai ki, taaki teri aankhon mein iss Shiva ke liye wohi excitement dhike."

"Ayya main first. Par tu ne kya kaha uss raat? Rohan is great bola tu ne. Haar gaya tha main.” Shiva said this time dejected as he sat on the ground.

“Haan Raavi, bahut gussa aaya uss raat, bola tha ghar se nikal ne ke liye. ‘Rohan is great’ . pata hai woh baat abhi bhi yahan chubti hai” Shiva said pointing to his heart.

“Tujhe lag raha hai na ki Shiva ek bada egoist hai? Kisi aur ko great bola toh isko kya problem hai? Lag raha hai na? Kyun ki.. Kyun ki, jis ladki se main pyaar kartha hoon, uss ke liye mere alawa koi aur great nahi ho saktha.” Shiva confessed.

Raavi could not stop her tears. She was sobbing and she fell to the ground as well.

“Haan Raavi, I love you Raavi. Pata nahi kabse aur kaise. I really really love you” Shiva yelled.

Raavi was continually sobbing. She didn't know what to say to Shiva.

“Mujhe laga, tu Maami ki Behen ki beti hai, kitna door jaa paayegi? Do saal, do saal intezar kiya tere liye.” Shiva said as he sat next to Raavi.

“Tu waapis aayi meri zindagi mein aur jab main problem mein tha, tu ne help bhi kiya. Aaya successes, khush tha main, par tu ne wohi baat ki,’Rohan is great’. Phir se haar gaya Raavi.”

“Ayy Chipkali” Shiva said as he grabbed Raavi’s shoulders and she looked into his eyes with tear filled eyes. “Main tere muh se ek baar Shiva is great sune ke liye wait kar raha tha aur I Love you bolne ki koshish mein tha, par main haartha hi aaya.” He said loosening his grip on her shoulders.

Raavi still was in a state of shock trying to process her feelings and what Shiva was saying.

“Nahi hoon main great Raavi. Main sirf Shiva hoon. Mere saare successes aur failures, tujhse jude hain. Agar tu nahi hai toh main nahi hoon. Par tu hi nahi hai mere paas.” Shiva said standing up and walking away.

Raavi stood up with tears in her eyes, ran as fast as she could, hugged Shiva and said “Shiva, I love you too Shiva!”

Shiva broke off the hug, “Nahi Raavi, tere yeh taras wala pyaar nahi chahiye.”

“Taras wala pyaar? Kya keh raha hai tu?” She said in a pleading tone.

“Tu toh Somnath ki sabsi sundar ladki hai na, iss padaku Shiva pe taras kha rahi hai na? Pyaar kahan hai, infatuation tha na?”

Raavi lost it. “INFATUATION? INFATUATION?” she asked, holding his shirt’s collar.

“Tujhe idea bhi hai main kaise feel karti thi? Idea hai? Tere saath bike pe bait thi toh dhadkane tez ho jaathi thi, tu jab paas aata toh.. ugh“ Raavi was unable to finish her sentence. How dare he call her love infatuation?

It was Shiva’s turn to freeze in place.

“Tujhe pata hai na mujhe padai mein koi intrest nahi thi, par main uss din exam mein fail hone ke dar se royi, pata hai kyun?” Raavi asked him.

“Kyunki mujhe pata hai ki tujhe padai se kitna matlab hai. Tu toh mere top karne se pehle khabhi izzat di mujhe? Issi liye itni mehnat se padai ki Shiva, taaki tu mujhe dosti ki layak samjho.”

Shiva froze. He didn’t know how to react. Raavi thought she was worthless?

“Tujhe yaad hai, maine kaha na ki jab tu first aayega main tujhse kuch kahungi. Main yehi bolne waali thi ki Shiva, mera Infatuation ya crush nahi hai. Yeh kehne waali thi ki I love you Shiva.” She continued wiping her tears.

“Par Shiva, uss din sab ke saamne kya kaha tu ne? Yeh bola na ki maine tujhe distract kiya, disturb kiya? Woh baatein bhi mujhe yahan chubti hai” She said pointing to her heart and began weeping.

Shiva felt guilt, hurt, anger, relief, joy and pain all at once.

“Raavi tu…” Shiva went to her and embraced her with all his might. Raavi hugged him back.

“Shiva tu bhi pagal hai. Agar maine bola ki Virat Kohli great hai toh kya main Virat Kohli se pyaar karti hoon?” She said as Shiva wiped her tears and held her face in his hands. They both let out a small laugh.

“Accha, matlab woh Kohli hai aur main gully cricketer?” He asked teasingly.

“Shut up Shiva” she said as he hit him lightly with her fists. Shiva hugged her again “I love you Raavi. Sorry and Thank you.”

“Meri taraf se bhi, Sorry and Thank you. I love you too Shiva.” Raavi said as Shiva placed a soft kiss on her forehead.

Raavi looked into Shiva’s eyes expectantly. Shiva looked at her and raised his eyebrows asking for her consent. Raavi slightly nodded, and closed her eyes in anticipation as Shiva placed a soft kiss on her lips. This feeling was new to the both of them. “Shiva” Raavi said softly as he broke away from the kiss.

“Chal uth, ghar drop karta hoon” Shiva said, trying to clear the air of awkwardness as he gave his hand to Raavi to stand up.

They turned off the lights in the storeroom, shut the shutter of Pandya Store and headed to the car without uttering a word.

“Walk ke liye pooch chipkali, walk ke liye pooch, vaise toh bahut filmy hai na tu?” He thought to himself

“Shiva, walk karke ghar chalein?” Raavi asked.

“Sure, why not” Shiva said nonchalantly trying to hide the smile obviously creeping on his face.

They walked back to Raavi’s Mausi’s house hand in hand as they tried to engage in awkward small talk about how they would work out their jobs and careers.

Raavi didn’t leave Shiva’s hand since they intertwined them in the storeroom and they both knew that they were never going to let go. Ever.
