Why Bollywood never made a biopic on Gandhi?

There are three biographical movies made on Bhagat Singh. One movie and atleast one TV show on Rani Lakshmi Bai. One movie on Subhash Chandra Bose. One even on Sardar Patel.

But Bollywood has never made a movie showing Gandhi's life story. There are movies which are related to Gandhi in some way by showing his ideas and values, most popular being Lage Raho Munna Bhai.

There is even a biopic on Gandhi's son Harilal, starring Akshaye Khanna. But Bollywood never thought of making a biopic on Gandhi himself.

It's ironic that Britishers made a biopic on Gandhi and got Best Picture award at the Academy for that.

Gandhi was one of the worst things to happen to India's freedom fight & India in general. For a non-violent man, he sure has a lot of blood on his hands. From the hasty partition treaty he signed that displaced/killed millions of Indians to rallying the Indian troops to go fight for the empire in WW2. Lets not even get into his perverted personal life or his non-industrial, rural economy ideology or his sexist, casteist, racist mindset.

Gandhi was a British Pawn/Stooge...so its only apt they make a feature film on him.

They knew they couldnt compete w the Hollywood film

The English Gandhi film is so exceptionally good that I doubt anyone can dare to make anything that can even come close to it - may be that’s why they never even tried!

Time to make a biopic of the murderer Godse and hail him as a hero....Good times..good times...achhe din are final here...Nathuram Godse zindabaad...
