Gandhi is overrated and his tall stature rests heavily on decades old propaganda and general ignorance that shields his dark sides and highly questionable acts. No bollywood flick would dare to show the creepy experiments with truth he carried out with minor girls by sleeping and bathing naked with them, his unreal idealism, the insensitive comments on jews, apathy towards the riot affected Hindu population, his views on women, and his ill-treatment of his wife which eventually killed her in jail. As mentioned earlier, Gandhi had no issues with the same British medicine when it came to saving his own life. Mahatma indeed!

BTW, how will Gandhi worshippers react if a modern political figure or a celebrity from any field gets inspired by mahatma's experiments with truth and tests his abstinence with minors? Given the amount of outrage that follows problematic comments on outfits, I assume they would feel really sick and want the person to be jailed.

Please don’t listen to anyone else but do your own research. However it helps to remind yourself that these days it’s a trend to bring down anyone who did anything substantial with their lives.

Wow..stumbled upon this thread..

Cannot help sharing my views on Gandhiji..of course u all r welcome to disagree ..but just personal thoughts..

Gandhiji did what was required at that time to bring India out of slavery..talk, negotiate, boycott..all means..People may slam him for his idea of non violence..but tell me how many countries have achieved true freedom with violence? All we have r disputed borders and terrorism..If things could've been achieved by violence and aggression such people would be ruling the world.

Instead we have passive aggressive people who control this world..

British didn't enter India by violence..they entered through trade. And trade was the reason for their exit.

Boycott of foreign goods, non cooperation and the World War broke their backs to n extent that it was no longer economically viable for them to stay in India. But to violence, we lost many Bravehearts and bright minds who could've contributed to free India.

Be true to your cause and keep on making efforts..u will succeed if u exist.

What is needed for long term success is the ability to maneuver through times..adapt to changes and turn the tide in your favour. What else explains the continued success of few business houses like Tata and Reliance while many others lost their sheen?

Ye Veeron ki Dharti hai aur zarurat padne par veerta dikhani bhi hai..but thoughtless aggression does more harm than good.

So I am not a part of this Gandhi bashing brigade..what he did towards the cause of freedom wasn't wrong.

Wrong was the idea of partition..the person who came up with it didn't put much thought into it..and if Gandhiji had n option to stop it and didn't.. that was wrong.

How was it practically possible to divide India on the basis of religion? How can a person settled down South or far East leave his home and everything he owned to settle in n unknown land in the west? That thought of uprooting a person from his homeland..that itself was wrong. Logistics issue, economic and cultural problems..all of this wasn't considered. Dividing a geographically vast and culturally varied land on the basis of religion was a big blunder.

It wasn't made by Gandhiji..but he is blamed for that..if he could've stopped and yet approved of it that's his blunder.

About his personal life, some things r documented and some aren't.. so better to leave it to interpretation

We already have movie on Gandhi, lead played by Ben Kingsley. We do not need any other movie on him.

By his own son Rajmohan Gandhi in his book. Apart from his perversion, he was casteist, misogynistic, and a racist. Doesn't deserve 1/10th of the worshipping he gets.

Well said.

Gandhiji was a great soul who sacrificed his life for his nation. Despite all his greatness, he still is a human being and may have made some mistakes. But that should be no reason to trash him now especially by the people who have no first hand information of anything that has transpired in those days. All these great people, we don’t have to idolize them but we shouldn’t disrespect them also because for one, we clearly don’t know the complete truth, two it’s undeniable that they were selfless great people, three and the main thing is that they are not alive anymore to defend themselves. We should learn about them -both their greatness and shortcomings, only so that we can benefit from their lives, not for some cheap pleasure of gossip and slander.

It’s undeniable that he gave the nation it’s strongest weapon to fight which made every common man come forward to fight because he didn’t have to kill anyone or pick up arms or any such extraordinary stuff. My Grand father was like 15 year old when we got Indepedence. He used to tell us how Gandhiji gave them hope with his Non-Violence principles.

For more enlightenment on Mahatma Gandhi read book written by his secretary Pyarelal Nayar. His sister was personal physician of Gandhi.

Lot of good information there!
