A Doubt Regd. Priya, Akshay Can Someone Clarify

Hey,

After watching tonight's episode I have a doubt. How exactly is Akki's character related to Priya? He addresses her as Didi but is he her own sibling?

I am asking this because today Priya clearly reveals that her father left/ abandoned her mother because she gave birth to daughters and not a son. So who is Akshay and how is he related to Priya's family?
