In India, there's a saying, "Religion is personal, but festivals belong to everyone".

Who the fcuk gets offended over a simple greeting?

If you're not a Christian (or ex-Christian) and don't wish to celebrate Christmas, then don't. If you're so worked up over someone wishing you Merry Christmas, then you need a psychiatrist. 😳

Shopping is a public place I am there to do shopping and be done. I don’t need retail clerks wishing me Merry Christmas for me to know it’s Christmas. I always wish my Christian friends Merry Christmas in private and listen to Christmas playlists on my own .It is imposing when I am expected to wish back the stranger in return . On top of it the people crying about a fictional Christmas boycott would never like being wished Happy Diwali or Eid .

@bold this is very dismissive of people who had traumatic experience with the religion and have valid reasons to feel uncomfortable about being greeted with it .

Retail clerks wishing you has to do with Christmas being the biggest festival of the country. Just like how clerks in India would wish you Happy Diwali or clerks in any Islamic country would wish you Eid Mubarak. There's nothing more to it. Wishing is part of the festive mood.

Nobody is forcing you to celebrate Christmas. If I get so worked up over a simple greeting, then I have issues.

Bold: Anyone can have trauma over anything. I can have trauma over cake or green leaves or anything else in the world. Doesn't mean that others will stop expressing themselves because of me. Just because I might have phobia of fire doesn't mean people stop having bonfires in my neighbourhood. It is unfair to expect the world to cater to every whim of everyone.

I have trauma, that's my problem. I need to get therapy. I don't dictate the world how to live because of my problem.

Random retail clerks have never wished me Diwali or Eid. They can wish Merry Christmas and I can also be free to shop elsewhere. Everyone is free to do as they like in a free country.

Exactly. So why stop anyone from wishing anybody? Retail clerks should be free to wish Merry Christmas and if someone doesn't like it they are free to not go there. Live and let live, right?

American conservatives are the one complaining about a hypothetical boycott happening and retail clerks having to greet with Happy Holidays instead of Merry Christmas. Glad we both worked out that it goes both ways .

My point was, that imposing a prohibition over clerks saying Merry Christmas is stupid. Also, yes, if someone doesn't like it then they can go somewhere else but I doubt it will be THAT huge of a number to actually bring losses to any company.

Who is prohibiting whom ? Y’all are repetitively running with the narrative American retail clerks are being stopped from saying Merry Christmas when people are shopping as they would.

I am done .

Many people just posted links where people were instructed not to say 'Merry Christmas' to clients. A member just posted that she was instructed not to say Merry Christmas unless a customer says it first. Did you not read them?

Corporates are private companies. They can impose any rules they want about what happens in their stores and what policies employees have to follow. If they feel they want to stay out of religious fuss and encourage employees to give generic greetings, it's their choice and their money. Don't like the job? Quit and go work elsewhere.

The only ones complaining and demanding to have things their way are the conservatives who think they have a right to force their religion and culture onto others. This whole crying about War on Christmas was started by conservative snowflakes. Their leaders regularly fear-monger about other religions and races taking over and get them upset about silly small things like what greeting they hear in a store.

And I also replied to them already.
