But you just said that clerks were not stopped from saying Merry Christmas. They are. They are being instructed to not say the term unless someone says it first. That's ridiculous and restrictive.

Also, I know you won't agree, but holidays and festivals (ANY RELIGION) are about peace, happiness and forgiveness. Anyone who feels offended by a greeting is just a d!ck and a bigot.

The only ones complaining and demanding to have things their way are the conservatives who think they have a right to force their religion and culture onto others. This whole crying about War on Christmas was started by conservative snowflakes. Their leaders regularly fear-monger about other religions and races taking over and get them upset about silly small things like what greeting they hear in a store.

Conservatives might be blowing it out of the proportion, but it's true that one has to be a massive bigot if they get offended by a greeting. And many people do, from what I saw on Quora.

The same conservatives would start crying big fat tears of oppression if any clerk dared to wish them Happy Eid or Happy Diwali. They want only one religious greeting - the Christian one. Corporates generally don't want to be involved in these kinds of religious things so going for generic greetings works out best. Even so, most corporates don't say anything or impose any rules about it.

There is no War on Christmas - everyone can celebrate however they want. They can't demand that paid workers in retail stores greet them in their own religious way. That is not a war on anybody.

It's a false flag that Republicans have used to get their supporters frothing at the mouth. This is how they get their base engaged and keep them voting for them by indicating to them that they will fight on behalf of only Christians. This is basically what the right wing does in every country - the same way BJP indicates in both big and small ways that they will fight for only Hindus. This is how they operate. This is what majoritarianism means.

True, I wasn't aware of this until this thread.. truly the weirdest thing I have ever heard.

Extreme behaviours of any kind are problematic.

Even if people don't want to wish Merry Christmas back - they can just smile back.

In eastern cultures, this kind of behaviour is actually considered rude. We all love people who mix and get along with others and are accommodating. No one likes people who just don't mix. Its rude.

I think there are very few in the general population who actually give a sh*t about these kind of things. There are some sections of people like politicians etc who do it form their own personal gain. There are people who are prejudiced.. but most people don't care. It's not one of those things that people obsess about or truly care.

If India was really Islamophobic - the Hindu majority won't be crazing over the Khans 😆

In t he gulf, some Arab at a festival forcing me to try something to eat, and I just can't say no. He is unable to understand I'm a pure vegetarian. I can't really eat because IDK if its pure veg or not, I don't even eat eggs.

Me taking it with a smile, telling him I'll definitely eat later - and then throwing it away when no one is looking. I tell him its the most delicious thing I have ever tasted 😆

I don't give two flying fcuks about Republicans or Conservatives or this idea of 'War on Christmas'. There's obviously no 'War on Christmas' but I saw on some sites that some people actually feel that the salutation is an insult to their 'non-Christian' identity. That was what struck me as remarkably inane and babyish. Like how dumb and mentally regressed are you? I wish all my friends Merry Christmas when 99% are Hindus, I am a Hindu and I have no Christian friends.

This is the idea from which some stores are asking their employees not to wish the customers Merry Christmas. This idea of offending is fundamentally wrong I feel. Same with Eid or Diwali. Take it and return it.

The idea that 'don't wish them a Holiday because they are not of that faith' is mind-numbingly idiotic.

Its a vicious circle.

"Woke" 23 year old goes to store. Gets wished "Merry Christmas". Is Outraged and considers that unfair and offensive to the minority and decides to take a stand for them. If they're going to wish Christmas, they better also wish Hanukkah, Diwali & Eid. ( Keep in mind the actual religious minorities are not offended and probably haven't even noticed)...just the Woke crowd perceives them to be.

Corporates then decide to go with "Happy Holidays" as not to "offend" anyone.

Now that 50 year old "Karen" visits the same store and is outraged that "Christmas" is missing from the Salutation and declares it as a "War on Christmas". She wants the generic greeting replaced with Merry Christmas like its been for years.

So a non-issue turns into a political debate with each side pushing their propaganda. I grew up as that 23 year old and was probably far left in my beliefs. But you don't see the whole picture from either sides of the spectrum. Both sides are propoganda machines, just one is more subtle than the other.
