As an elder millennial, stop blaming millennials for cancel culture or wokeness. Most of us are in our thirties. We groan when we see woke because we know the correct intransitive is awake. We have a lot more important things to be worried about like why even pasta in vodka sauce gives us hangovers or why the joints are starting to hurt. We officially sit around the fire and narrate tales of back in our day. Please take your issues with TikTok Teens. Millennials would like to be excluded from this narrative.

Like I said, I have no issue with it. I don't mind people wishing me anything they want. A nice greeting is a nice greeting in any religion. But a significant part of the population is not like that. These Karens crying about the "War on Christmas" (because boo hoo hoo, clerks said Happy Holidays instead of Merry Christmas) would be the same ones crying very hard if they had to deal with Happy Eid and Happy Diwali greetings. They want cultural and religious hegemony for only their culture and only their religion.

In the US, that can be very problematic because it is not a country built on religion even if there is one that is in the majority. It's not even a country that "belongs" to anyone. Everyone is an immigrant, including the white people. The only natives are Native Americans and they have been killed and pushed into small regions.

First, the claim was the canceling of Christmas/motherhood was never attempted.

2nd, the excuse was that so what? It was private companies.

3rd. The U.S. is an immigrant country. Therefore, the majority should give up their culture and assimilate in the other direction? 😆

The U.S. is a country of immigrants, but didn't you know it going in that a majority are Christians? So why migrate there if you didn't like it? I certainly didn't go imagining they would conform to my culture or give up theirs so as not to hurt my feelings. Respect should go both ways, from citizens to immigrants and vice versa.

And yeah, a country does belong to its citizens. It is not a global squatting ground. No one gets to go in and start dictating rules.

The existing law says minorities have rights. Is anyone forcing minorities to give up their celebrations?

Just like you and someone else claim American Christians/Republicans push their religion in public Square, you're also pushing your ideology. Which is to say, you want the majority to pretend it doesn't exist.

Sometimes it is about religion, sometimes about ENTIRE WOMANHOOD!

And yeah, cancelations happen if someone doesn't comply.

Right wingers in India do the same thing. They're pushing their twisted ideas.

Does that make the people objecting in this thread (including you and me) Karens? That was your definition after all. Objecting to a cancelation makes one a Karen.

No offense but this is the funniest thing I've ever read on this forum. The white people who came to the US annihilated an entire race of people and stole their land and pushed them into reservations. Who asked them to come to America? What culture did they conform to? What respect are you talking about?

WTF are you talking about? 😭

People immigrated to the country because they fit the rules of the day. Many were brought in for their specialized skills and many came because they had family they needed to be near. The white people who forced their way in earlier do not have any more rights than the immigrants that came later.

Just like white people fought for their own culture, so will the black and brown immigrants that came later. They cannot force their religion and culture onto other people in public spaces like retail shops. Want to hear Merry Christmas? Ask your friends and family to say it to you. A store clerk does not have to if he or she does not wish to. Karens don't get to dictate how religion works in public spaces.

The truth is everyone has an agenda. We can all claim to be truly all encompassing but we all have our biases. Right Wing & Left Wing in itself is such a convoluted label. The Majority of Indo-Americans will claim to be liberals when in the US but you move then to India and they're Modi-Bhakts. We're all hypocrites. Just in this thread, you have a member calling out Christians for pushing their religion(which I've never witnessed other than a few Jehovah's Witnesses at your doorstep) while at the same time wanting to make Diwali mainstream. The "Woke" movement itself started out as something good but is another toxic political weapon today.

True secularism might just be a utopian dream. The best we can hope for is to tolerate each other.

Your response is certainly funny and chockful of contradictions 😆

Isn't that exactly what was being argued in the beginning of this thread? That the Mughal invaders did a lot of wrong things, but the show shouldn't be canceled?

Then your proceeded to blame all of India for such behavior.

Oh, yeah. The white people who forced in. 😆 Isn't that exactly what the people trying to cancel the show claim? That the Mughals forced in and the minority which follows the same religion do not have the same rights?

Also, you seem to be blaming all white Americans for crimes committed by a few. Most people who immigrated here didn't kill natives. Certainly the people alive right now didn't.

Isn't that exactly what the right wingers are doing? Blaming all Muslims for the Mughals?

So, my friend, there is no difference between those cancelers and you. Zero. Zilch. Nada.

So it ain't just India after all who are embarrassing and immature. It's the woke left in the U.S. and the right wing in India.

Also, I doubt the Indian Americans in this forum immigrated there because they were brought forcibly to the U.S. Most migrated because of economic reasons and unlike the Middle East, the U.S. would treat them with respect.

Else, why are they still there? Why are so many Indians still waiting for H1Bs?

Because with all its faults, the U.S. is still the #1 country in the world most want to immigrate to. It was actually polled, btw.

And yeah, one more thing. White colonizers went to the Americas, the continent(s). The United States is a country. The citizens of a democratic country do get to say what happens in their country. No immigrant has the right to dictate otherwise. If and when they become citizens, they, too, get their votes. Otherwise, that immigrant becomes an invader. Because that's what invaders do. Impose their rules on a preexisting society.

No one should stop minorities from celebrating what they are (talking about the U.S. here). Incidents of racism do exist, but by a large percentage no one objects to any minorities. No one should stop the majority either. Anything else makes you a bigot. Pure and simple.

This is comedy gold. No nuance at all. Might as well have been written by a trumper mom on Facebook

Care to refute even one point? You can't 😆. But woke left is not self aware enough to recognize its own bigotry.

But what's the problem of someone says Merry Christmas. I despise a lot of things about Islam and still don't mind if someone says Eid Mubarak. It's a greeting FFS.

In India, there's a saying, "Religion is personal, but festivals belong to everyone".

Who the fcuk gets offended over a simple greeting?

If you're not a Christian (or ex-Christian) and don't wish to celebrate Christmas, then don't. If you're so worked up over someone wishing you Merry Christmas, then you need a psychiatrist. 😳

Just because there are bigger problems in the world doesn't mean something that irritates online can't be spoken up.

The fact that you have to justify police brutality against black people in a completely unrelated way shows exactly what you stand for. Look in the mirror yourself instead of sticking your head in the sand to feel better. Now get lost.

That doesn't justify calling all Indians "an embarrassment". That's flat out racist. IT Cell trolls don't represent even 20% of real Indians.
