Summer is here and india trips are in the horizon. As for me my folks are coming to US this time. They are asking me what they should buy, and where they should buy. I know we went through this last summer, but trends and fashion change so does the market.

Lets share our experiences, ideas and thoughts here.

  1. Does anyone know any specific shop in Fountain Plaza/alsa mall where we can buy readymade dresses as well as Punjabi suits?
  1. Do you know any specific kids shops in Fountain plaza/alsa mall
  1. I also want to buy some sarees – ones with work but not transparent. Can someone give me names of these kinds of sarees that fall under this category?

Thanks

Madhu

Madumitha -

Do you have the link to the thread that we had on this last year?

The last time I was in India was more than a decade ago and I'm going to be clueless. I've been warned by a lot of friends, that Madras/shopping etc., has changed a lot!!

Oh and if you do get a response for your PM, would you please post all the tips/tricks that you got in this thread? Thanks!

Hi madhu,

I know a shop in fountain plaza 4 readymade churidhaars, but i don't remember the shop name.they have one branch in spencer's too.

Direction:In Fountain Plaza, from Carpark if u enter the building, right side 2nd shop.It is a small shop, they have a ftting room & they have wide varieties for all sizes.U have 2 bargain. They also have churidhaar materials, tops & skirts. They have all types of materials(cotton, shiffon & also tussar).

U'll find many shops(readymades & materials) in fountain plaza,u can check it too.U'll also find tailors in that building.

Yeah Sup.. it would be nice if someone can post the old "India Shopping" link that has gone into hiding now.

We planned to go to India in March and finally ended up booking tickets for Summer. Tickets are so pricey during summer - There's a huge difference in what you pay between May and June/July/Aug. I don't know which part of Amreeka you live, but I got an email from Air India that they currently have a special for travel until May 15th, round trip $599 from NY/NJ to any city in India. The problem is b'cos of school, most of us can't make use of that offer. I can't believe I paid three times that for travelling in Summer. 😭

Exactly in the first week of Sep, when schools open, the ticket prices drop. Romba aniyaayam. Hope you've booked yours already..

Kadhambari and Nallu -
Thanks for the info, gals.

Nallu - re:Budget sarees - if you remember can you please tell us the approx price range. I believe there are 2 kumarans - Is one called 5 Maadi Kumaran and the other simply "Kumaran Stores". Which one carries the Budget sarees that you bought?

Madhu - I think you are much more popular than some of us here 😉 Esp.. me... I'm not in any popular list at all.
Lets just hope some of the silent readers here from India, will help us out with some info.
