Pakistan's Independence Day is annually held on August 14th. It commemorates the day when Pakistan achieved independence and was declared an independent state, following the end of the British rule in 1947.
The concept of Pakistan would have remained a dream, had it not been for Muhammad Ali Jinnah, a Karachi born and London trained Barrister, who later became the father of the nation of Pakistan. His efforts and struggle made this impossible dream a reality for many Muslims. He was the leader of the All-India Muslim League from 1913 onwards, until Pakistan’s independence.

The Mountbatten Plan carved the independence of India and Pakistan largely based on religious majority, with a Muslim majority in Pakistan and a Hindu majority in India. While the East Pakistan became Bangladesh after gaining independence, the West Pakistan is known simply as Pakistan today.
Both India’s Congress and the Muslim League welcomed Mountbatten’s plan. The great subcontinent of British India was partitioned into the two countries of India and Pakistan in 1947. Pakistan celebrates the day on August 14th, while India celebrates it’s independence on 15th August.
