In this case being unconscious and ending up in a situation where you could get raped is a big deal yes. It's self destructive. She had agency there. She was not being conned by the men she hooked up with. She didn't end up in that situation out of nowhere.

But you were talking about sleeping around specifically ,not rape. . You talked about casual sex with strangers and I was addressing that.

I think a scene just showing Rani apologising would have been enough.

Actually reading your post again, I think you are right, they never corrected that racism.

Enough in terms of the plot ,yes but not in terms of the arc we were talking about. I think she apologised later? Don't remember.

I don't remember her apologizing.

And as I said in my next post, you are right they should have actually never had that scene and they never corrected the racism in that scene.

I'm addressing casual sex from the perspective of general indian audience.

Even if its rape, people here won't have a problem if the girl married him at the end of the day. There was a real life case where a guy stalked this girl (we knew both), she was raped and then murdered by him. There were people who were saying. "murder karne ki kya zaroorat thi.. rape hi kiya tha toh shaadi kara dete" 🤢

That's the mentality and it happens (panchayat ruling marriage to the victim as punishment for the man) - woman is treated as an object and no one is thinking about her. Movies like Raja ki ayegi baraat, Benaam Badhshah. 🤢

I wonder, for many people if him being black was even noticed or seen that way. Or was it

Madhur may have intentionally put that scene and its perceived by different people differently. We don't know if she casually slept with him and doesn't remember or if she was sexually assaulted. It was never clarified.

Another question I have is, showing such a scene, does it make things like racism seem alright or is it just showing us how we as Indians as a majority see things?

Hopefully the director realises that now. It was a sweet film otherwise.

I don't know why but I keep reading your username in Farida Khannum's voice 😆

Wasn’t PC drugged and not aware? If a girl is drugged and not in her clear senses, how can any man have sex with her? Where would the consent be? Isn’t that rape? That’s how interpreted that scene. It most likely wasn’t the man’s intention but I don’t remember PCs character was completely aware what she was doing either. Personally, I think it’s a big deal for any girl to wake up to stranger whom you don’t remember sleeping with.

We don't know if she was conscious at the moment they met. There's a window between being high and being knocked out. If during that time she had given him consent then it's not rape. Because if he didn't have clear indicators that she was losing consciousness we can't blame it on him. It's also possible they were both high and don't remember hooking up even after waking up next to each other. If the man knew she was unconscious and still decided to have sex with her then it's obviously rape.

Priyanka's vulnerability in the scene was in not being able to remember whether she had consented or not .and not the sex in itself because if she was gonna beat herself up about having sex with random guys that ship had sailed when she slept with Arbaaz . She had no power there because if he had raped her, she couldn't even remember let alone calling him out on it or doing something abt it.

It honestly didn’t seem like it was the one pivotal moment in her life, other than that it seemed like a she was sexually exploited or something. Which imo, is a big deal for any woman. Putting the race part aside, it did not look like consensual se..

Of course not…if I wanna show a badass who just does bad things go right ahead …that’s not the problem here

If the entire movie is based on the character arc of “reforming” , then you need to make the character reform for a strong reason

U can’t show the character doing amoral things throughout without any regrets, and have something like this suddenly cause a catharsis …

if it wasn’t consensual, that becomes a crime and is a whole other tangent ….she then becomes a victim ..who is not at fault …

But the movie dosent show her as a victim …she is rather shown as someone who was at fault, realises and reforms ..which is wholly unconvincing in this case given she is reformed coz she’s a victim of a crime? and not because she realises how wrong she was?
