Then there's that scene in Queen where Kangana falls asleep at the hostel and screams "Mummieeee !!! " when she's woken up by a black man.

Idk I interpreted that scene that she has hit rock bottom because she had slept with a stranger while she was drugged and didn’t even know what happened the night, and that’s why she felt this is what her life has come to. 🤷‍♀️ I think the scene would’ve been same or similar if it was a white man too. It’s a big deal for any girl and especially the way Indian movies portrays casually sleeping around as bad especially if the girl didn’t even how and when it happened.

I don't think Fashion had anything to do with racism, it was more like Priyanka felt what the hell has happened to herself.

Queen was racism, but Queen was all about growth of Rani as a human.

But funnily enough the stranger was black when there were tons of Desi strangers around. and.it didn't look like a coincidence. The veiled implications abt sexual appetite degredation and size were there too . It was pretty much like " She had turned into such a sl#t that she went looking for BBC and THATs when she realised enough is enough". Hard to believe Bhadarkar didn't know it would have looked like that.

The scene wouldn't have been just the same if the man was white. Even though the audience wouldn't have approved of the sleeping around bit..Indians tend to be in awe of white people and look down on black people so considering the context of the scene race did matter.

I addressed the scene in Fashion in my comment to The Best before I saw your comment.

Yes Queen was about Kangana's growth but when the flaw is not presented as a flaw( in this case prejudice) it ends up being an excuse for cheap laughs. That scene was intended to have comic value and that's the problem. Plays into the stereotype of the scary black male. If they had focused on that part of her growth they'd have shown her kissing the same guy but she promptly chose to kiss the Italian chef.

I think it wouldn’t have been too different if it were a white man. Indians think foreigners sleep around a lot casually 😆

In that case doesn't it apply to fairness creams too, that the model/actress didn't write the ad or produce the cream so why blame her for endorsing those?

I don't blame Priyanka for writing the scene..she obviously didn't. But having faced racism in the U.S when she was 15 has been her shtick so she must have had second thoughts about the scene.

And we can't dismiss the race angle saying it was just about sleeping around with foreigners, that it would have been the same if the guy was white. It's like the scenes in those films where the villain/ foreigner is always Muslim and blows up innocent people.

It’s a bit disturbing that the majority of the movie shows her being rude to ur colleagues, throwing shade at them and being arrogant , affair with a married man , taking advantage of that mans personal interest in her to get an big apartment and big professional success, belittling her boyfriend and friends because they aren’t as successful

all these transgressions don’t awaken her moral compass ever…

but ofcourse it has to be “omg she slept with a stranger who happens to be a man of colour…”…that makes her realise what she’s doing is wrong 😒

What she willingly did throughout the first half was far worse in terms of morals…

Exactly ! Sleeping with strangers was the least of her problems at that moment

Not Kangana's, Rani's. If you think about it as Kangu only, you will always look at it with hatred😆.

I don't think her kissing him was necessary to show it as a growth, the fact she starts to trust him and became best friends shows the growth.

No need to overcompensate by kissing him, when what they wanted to show is Rani is now comfortable with the idea of kissing a stranger.

Are supposed to critique a film only on the basis of morality? Should movies only portray being nice to everyone 😕

It honestly didn’t seem like it was the one pivotal moment in her life, other than that it seemed like a she was sexually exploited or something. Which imo, is a big deal for any woman. Putting the race part aside, it did not look like consensual se..

Don’t you think that the possibility of being raped while unconscious is a BIG deal and very damaging for a woman?
