I Bluekohl definitely love ur point of view and respect ur opinion but disagree and did not like the use of the way the word sati savitri was used. Most people use savitri when trying to taunt a girl about acting to be naive or docile without even being aware about the depth of savitri's character. Savitri is what u call in today's term a true feminist. She at a time even hundreds and thousands of centuries back made a decision to chose her own life partner without bowing down to any interference of her parents. She chose a man who was destined to live short life, who was an outcast and had lost his kingdom, he lived with his blind parents in the jungle. She chose him for his virtues and character and his strong personality despite knowing the outcome of marrying him. They had a short happy marriage and when he died as destined she refused to give up and waged war against the Lord of death. We often growup being told how she fought with yamraj himself. Now the truth is yes she did in a way Not with a physical weapon but her sharp mind she tricked yamraj and got him stuck into his own web of Three wishes he granted her .she through those three wishes not only got back her husband but their lost kingdom and her in laws eyesight. She debated with him and got two wishes and when granted the last wish with the only condition That only her husbands life can't be granted rest all can be fulfilled That is when she realized that she can't directly ask hence used her mind and in disguise of wanting to bore her kingdom their heir and bring themup with her husband. Yamraj got tricked and granted her wish only to realise after the wish was granted on how he was tricked.

She was somebody who had the quality for standing up for what she believed, value people for their qualities and not their fortune and last but not the least fight for what was hers. Inshort she was what every girl should be brave and a woman with a mind and voice of her own a true feminist u see and as far as the banyan tree or bargad ka paid legend goes well a bargad ka paid cause bargad is the tree that provides most oxygen to us taking in the highest amount of carbon dioxide and a way of honouring the tree for it's service as we do in our culture where plants and animals are worshipped alike. So that is what going around it seven times symbolizes and praying and worshipping it does. Our culture has a very deep and nuance study to it which most follow without knowing the science and logic behind it unaware about the great intelligence of their forefathers who knew the importance of oxygen even back then and Cameup with a method to instill within the minds of people the importance behind it. As often stories and certain practices bring a faith and belief in people as not everybody has it in them to actually look up the science and logic behind creation.

Here is a fun fact we always say paathar ki muhrat without knowing that not all stones can be used to make idols. Even idols have genders and categories which in only certain and specific types are used differing the idol and climate. There are communities and tribes of generations who put in the efforrs to do this study. Not all or anybody can just decide to make idols or use just any rock as they wish.

Sorry for the long post I hope I didn't offend u just wanted to voice my opinion.

Thank you for reading.

Yeah I am a student of English literature but plan to study history of Indian religious study after my graduation which finishes this week.I have alot of interesting facts and theories that can leave u amazed. I am a agnostic by belief but a Hindu by practice as unlike other religions where ur belief is predominant in Hinduism ur belief is secondary it's ur practice that decides ur dharma. U would be surprised as there is no translation for the word blasphemy in any Indian language as the term does not exist in our religious thought process as we believe nobody is beyond questioning it is said in the Vedas never blindly believe anything thrown at ur face always question, experience and learn. As according to Hinduism whether u believe or u don't u are both sailing in the same boat and are trying to draw conclusions about something u have no complete knowledge about as when u try explaining to a blind person about sunlight he can either believe u or disguard ur saying . If he believes than he is trusting something that he has never experienced and if u say u don't ur closing ur self from a never before experience u could get. So instead of drawing conclusions keep an open mind to new experiences and learnings. As even science is nothing but attempt of the curious humanmind to make sense of the workings of the world and just because there isn't proof of certain things it dosen't mean they don't exist as even air can only be felt but never seen and u can only cure the heart not its heartbeat. There is a very interesting hymn in the rigveda called nasadiya sukta which goes somewhat like this... does light come first or darkness let's ask the gods for they know or they might not as they too came after creation took place, let us ask the Supreme one above the gods as he may know or maybe not as he too maybe does not as he was maybe mute or created by creation itself it is very interesting how it questions the existence while at same time being sure of gods existence. I did not write the exact words but a vague explanation as it would get too complexed. there are reasons why certain days are dedicated to certain gods and why only certain offerings can be made to certain gods and not the others. There is also a reason why we enter temples bare feet as temples and gurudwaras are built on magnetic fields of positive energy thus leading to vibration in the human body or why only ghee and milk is used as a offering to lord Shiva being the only Hindu God who is offered milk especially during the month of August as it is believed milk is poison for the body during the monsoon season and helps maintain the level of vatta ( air) kapha ( cold or cough) and pitta ( acids) and as Shiva being the one who drinks poison as the stone the banalinga stone used to make shivling found on the banks of river narmada contains properties that milk and ghee hold together with its fat contents.

There are really bizarre traditions as I forgot there is a tribe in Karnataka that throws meat and flesh at their tribal God during a certain day of the year as it is believed he went hunting one day and fell in love with a girl there and never returned hence leaving his devotees furious with his behavior. Or the maika of sita maiya in bihar there is still a debate whether it is in bihar or Nepal that her actual maika exists but during the bidaai the ladkiwale hurl abuses in the name of lord ram as they still are angry with his behavior regarding goddess sita.

There is even a interesting theatre practice called yakshagana a pronto art form practiced in dakshin karnataka where acts and decisions of God's are questioned through dance and sing called celestial music. Like why lord ram attacked and shot a arrow from the back at vanar vali father of angad. As its a act of cowardice and betrayal an question to the maryada purushuttam lord rams character.

Sorry for getting carried away I should probably stop before being reported as I can go on and on hope u find the information interesting

first and foremost, greetings to the members of this beautiful forum. I am new but the posts here are hilarious to read and undoubtedly brighten my daily drungery. jasfa trolling is my guilty pleasure.

I beg your beg for this long post.

satti-

what we are told:

a mother who claims to love her daughters equally. a wife who claims to care about her husband. a sister in law who claims to appreciate the efforts Mami ji's efforts to help her daughter find a rite of passage (jasmine taking a step towards righting her wrongs- at least that is what she was made to think).

what we see:

a desperate woman clawing at any opportunity she can to achieve her dream/obsession of going to 'kenede' because she failed to do so on her own merit; going as far as to sacrifice her elder daughter's dream of completing her PHD in her homeland and blatantly disrespecting her patriotic love.

her treatment of tejo ji and jasmine is painful to watch. Tejo Ji is constantly pushed to the forefront to clean up the mess that everyone else in the family makes. through emotional manipulation, she gets tejo to participate in the quiet patriarch ball despite her vehemently protesting. as if that wasn't enough she lies about their property that led to her humiliation in public. the very next day, she looks for a groom to get her daughter hitched because apparently, her elder daughters anguish doesn't hold a candle in front of 'kenede'. jasmine breaks her marriage-> she is right because we won't get to go to Canada. she lets tejo ji take the fall.

she lets jasmine get away with her malicious acts because she is a 'child' while tejo ji is expected to be perfect and not make any mistakes. defending jasmine against abuse at the hands of rupi is fine, commendable even, but then doing the same thing by locking her in the room is the same thing, abuse. i am not saying jasmine is a saint but resorting to such incarcerating acts really goes to shows how she has failed in her upbringing. the infantilising of jasmine is just stupid and insufferbale.

dilraj constantly gets taunts from her about his eating habits. we don't see it but i know for a fact that that is damaging to a child's self-esteem and self-image.

her treatment of her husband isn't any better. she is the reason he got blacklisted from another country. yet, she doesn't learn her lesson. additionally, she deliberately going against his wishes to look for a prospective groom that will bring her to 'kenede'. if given the choice between Canada and rupi, I am ready to bet my last dollar, she will choose the former. unfortunately, this is the exact same mentality she has thought of jasmine which led to her leaving him at the altar.

when Mami Ji tries to expose jasmine's heinous crimes, she insults the woman who was uttering nothing but the truth. keep in mind that she is well aware of how her daughter behaves.

rupi-

what we are told:

a dignified man who tries his gives his children his best. someone who they can rely on and should come to for help. claims to love Tejo unconditionally.

what we see:

a spineless person who didn't have the guts to tell his daughter that the man she was about to marry has lost his job- the condition she set for this marriage. was she wrong for leaving fateh standing at the dais? yes. was she wrong for expecting honesty from Fateh and her father? no. the decision to postpone or proceed was supposed to be hers and Fateh's. not anyone else but their because it was their life. like satti, his knowledge of jasmine's reaction suggests that he acknowledges his flaws in raising her. not only did he decisive jasmine, he also cheated kushbeer and Fateh. when tejo Ji finds out, he binds her by oath to not reveal the truth- which could have prevented what happened after that. not to mention, he coerced his elder daughter who had already experienced the trauma of a failed marriage one into another loveless marriage for the sake of their reputation. after all that, he shamelessly (because he doesn't seem to think that maybe he should have chosen to be a good father over maintaining the false pretence of being the perfect family) asks her if she is okay. wth does that mean even mean. the woman just got shortchanged because of her own sister's incompetency to handle a situation with sensitivity. no shit, she ain't okay. after the ball fiasco or was it the jas incident, instead of behaving like an adult, he decides to pack his bag adn walk out of the house...leaving his favourite daughter reeling the tethers of heartbreak.

from the looks of it, he isn't very involved in jasmine's and dilraj's upbringing (this is my personal analysis and might be wrong). when he had the chance to knock some sense into her decomposing brain, he doesn't do it. instead, he ships her away to someone else's house to deal with. that's bad parenting in every aspect. I don't care if jasmine is the epitome of stupid, brainless, selfish, uncaring or a bag of unsalted fries. she is HIS daughter. it's HIS responsibility to bring her back to the right pathway. speaking of responsibility, he is allergic to carrying them out and taking them. after the ball incident, he blamed satti and everyone else. wasn't he part of that circus too? wasn't he present at the ball meeting groom? then after the jass incident again, he balmed the family of rushing things. didn't partake in every activity? didn't he call jas the perfect match for tejo ji? he is all talk and no walk.

the way he spoke with his brother when the truck incident happened- mind-boggling. yea, it wasn't his brightest moments but at least appreciate the fact that he was trying to help. again, wasn't he in agreement to rush the marriage with jas? if he wasn't that he is what I said earlier- a spineless man that cant takes a stand for his daughter well being.

bebe-

what we are told is what we see. an old lady who didn't get to go to her dream country and now expects her grandchildren to do it for her. she will do whatever she can for it. consequences are demand. she fails miserably as the head of this ludicrous clan of sadhus.

chacha &chachi-

don't have much of an opinion because they aren't present

Tejo and abhiraj-

only two sane ones out of these lunatics. they have been discussed in depths in other threads (i think).

jasmine-

three words- I hate her. I dont wanna waste my time picking up this piece of trash.

wow, that was long.
