Why do we owe allegiance to a country? Why should it not be towards the people we live our lives with and actually rely on for support, companionship, social belonging, self-actualization, and more? Why should anyone put their life on the line for an imaginary and arbitrary border artificially dividing people? If all the people can live fruitful fulfilling lives does it matter where these borders are or who controls them?
Maybe, you have great answers to all these questions and have a good reason the be patriotic. And that's great. I wish I could go back to where I felt those things and didn't question it. But for me, as I have grown older, I have become a lot more questioning of all these things like patriotism and loyalty that are considered normal and natural for all people. Like - why do we do it. And unfortunately, for me, I don't have good answers. I'm constantly in an uncomfortable state of questioning wondering - what is the meaning of it all.
I agree with you to some extent too.
I don't understand these wars and disputes over borders.
We should be more concerned about the people rather than the land.
People on loving their own country are offcourse not wrong but I've started wondering and questioning the way of reflecting or showing patriotism by wars over borders,or prioritising the land over the people.
I consider all the countries and people equal and have the same love and respect for all of them.
And it surely does not make me any less patriotic or bad citizen.
But for me the patriotic movies are over glorifying. The true other side of people's lives is mostly not shown clearly. I find them preachy.
