Rewind and Review - Episode 1

Episode 1 Rewind and Review Discussion Starts here!

As we've discussed, from today, we will watch an episode a day(Mon-Sat) and post our reviews. We will reply to each other and discuss the episodes. Since we're all in different countries and time zones, we don't want to impose a certain time. Hopefully we will continue to have a great time interacting with each other here. Let's relive SAAKK Season 1 together from the beginning, as we manifest a Season 2 together!

First episode sets up the Bhallas and the Sabherwals. Both with different economic status but same regressive thoughts. Both don’t support higher education for women. Both differetiate between beti and bahu. Both seeing betas as an asset. Shaurya doesn’t want his girlfriend to pursue her chance at a PhD while Mr. Bhalla wants his daughter married off. Devi sees the bahu as someone who takes care of the family while Ramesh Bhalla sees a beti as a weight to unload. Shaurya is the ever celebrated son while The Bhalla son is mentioned as someone who will rake in the dowry. Both families play their role in maintaining the patriarchy!

Loved the intercut scenes with Anokhi and Shaurya. Anokhi talking about equality and choices for women that don’t require a woman to get permission from a man. While Shaurya unhappy that Shagun didn’t seek his permission first and putting “choices” before her between him and her education. One thing I agree with Shaurya is that he was truthful about what he wanted from the beginning. Either she gives a full yes to being the Sabherwal bahu or its a full no from him. It’s not fair but we all make choices in life.

Loved the set up of Rama Bhalla who cowers and picks up after her husband but also gives Laali dirty looks 😆! She has a quiet strength about her. In a world that has taken away her choices, she works within the system. Her voicelessness allows Anokhi to have a voice.

Aastha is the guru that a girl needs. She’s supportive and sees the uniqueness of Anokhi. Also, Shanoor has my heart! Shaan is there in the family picture but for all purposes he’s like an outsider. Devi takes credit for his son and Tejvi displaces him off to the side and away from his son.

Visually speaking, looooved Jugni and the entire train sequence! Loved Shaurya’s descent down the steps! Loved how the Sabherwal men all came in for the photo. Loved Shagun 1.0 turning around in her gorgeous outfit. Also Sabherwal House is beautiful!

Precap: Anokhi goes to Gurdaspur and runs into Shaurya! The infamous takkar and “sorry” coming up!

Hi I watched episode 1 hmm this shaurya dosent even give chance for shagun to explain her side of story properly and he broke the engagement he told he don’t like working ladies 😬😳 and badi maa and bade papa they dint even have chance to shaan to stand beside shaurya uhhh 😬

🤗 yesss let's all start it again! I will try to participate as much as i can while I'm out on vacation right now. But after I'm back home I'll be on every day!!! ❤

I think I’ll enjoy this… during the run of the show it was always a roller coaster ride… with predictions, uncertainties , rumours, negative criticisms, I could never really enjoy the episodes, and look deeper…
