Yes! At it's absolute weakest. It's not that we don't have talent in the industry anymore. We do get to hear some gems by likes of Amit Trivedi or Pritam or Ajay Atul or Malik brothers and others but the amount awful remakes and Tony Kakkar or Badshah songs that are shoved down our throats every month are so overwhelming. Also thanks to insta reels ( the new tik tok) every other decent song turns into a headache.

Also every next week there is some music video with extremely cheesy storyline and monotonous melody featuring ex Bigg Boss contestant or former Tik Toker.

Perhaps this could be true

I’m 30 and I still give all songs a chance. If they suck they suck 😆 if their good their good.

Unless you have some concrete evidence for how music is getting worse (I would definitely be interested in reading that), this seems to be all speculation and seductive nostalgia. When you can't explain it, first tendency is to bring in vague, inexplicable non-evidential concepts like soul is missing or X-factor is missing.

Yeah there’s plenty of songs they make with nice soul and awesome enlightening lyrics

“Khoobsurat Bahot Hain Tu Lekin

Dil Lagane Ke Kabil Nahi Hai” 🤗🤗

Was listening to this the other day & realised even the wannabe mediocres back then had some sense of novelty, melody & whatever it takes to make them memorable (the factor which is miserably missing in recent times though then again , kids from late 90s or 00's who grew up with them might be relishing same junk in their escapist 2030's or 40's)

Its been declining very gradually for almost ten years, but gotten worse in the last 5.

Doesn't matter if a soundtrack has ten tracks or one, melody and structure is important.

There was a reason why the generation that grew up with Shankar-Jaikishan, OP Nayyar, SD Burman, Kalyanji-Anandji also listened to Laxmikant-Pyarelal, RD Burman and Rajesh Roshan.

The same generation, when they became grandparents, would listen to Nadeem-Shravan, Anand-Milind, Jatin-Lalit in the 90s. And this same generation, now very old would listen to Ajay-Atul.

If melody is missing and the core of every song is heavily produced beats and auto-tuned voices, this would be the result.

Melody had no age, music is timeless. There are some genres which have a specific audience, but that is not for every song out there.

Bollywood music has 3 components. Music, Singer's voice and lyrics.

Last few years the quality has been bad with respect to all three.

Let's take Music first

Pick 3 albums and listen to them one after the other in the last 10 years. Music is the same rehashed beats. You are not able to identify originality of the music director/composer at all

Take 1995 - we had DDLJ, Rangeela, Akele hum Akele tum and Karan Arjun. All completely different scores amazing in their own way

Now Singers.

All we have are auto tune kings and queens and rappers.

Lyrics.

Kamar Teri latak Matak. Bottle Kholna Peena pilana that is all there in the lyrics.

Remember udit Narayan's Kya Karen ya na Karen or Yaaro sun Lo Zara in Rangeela.

Compare that with the trash that Badshah Neha Kakkar and Tanishq bagchi spew.

The music is horrible. Except Kabir Singh and Malang. Last 3 years has been just trash.

IMPO apart from the 60's to 80's phase, 90's to late 2000's (Probably till OSO, CDI, Ghajini) etc had the best music. A music that had extreme repeat value and emotions attached. Post 2015 none of the tracks have even strike a chord with me. With bad actors , even bad music is a big drawback for BW atm. Lost that connect with BW to be frank.
