The pandemic is to blame. Many big films have been delayed, postponed, on hold etc.

So yes, I do feel there has been a lack of HOT albums. in 2020 and 2021 so far. But I am loving MIMI soundtrack as well as HASEEN DILLRUBA.

Favourite soundtrack of 2021 is PAGGLAIT - Arijit Singh created magic.

We have to also consider the fact that a large number of films areusing music differently than what they used to. You can't have 8 songs per soundtrack now. Lots of films just have 3-4 songs. And they are situational, so we are missing BANGERS. Also, the fashion of lip-synching and dancing in the street has slowed right down, so there is now even less "reason" for having random songs in films.

BUT music in Hindi cinema is one of two things that have been CONSISTENTLY good throughout since the 1940s to the 2020s. The other one is beautiful women.

It could have to do with Neha Kakkar and Badshah's raps dominating the world of bollywood music.😆 In addition to covid that has brought the world to a standstill for 1.5 years now ...

I admit that I enjoy Badhsha's rap songs... but I have to try hard to ignore some of those cringeworthy lyrics. Abhi toh party shuru huwi hai can literally change the ambiance from 0 to 100 ... so he's definitely good. But I can't stand Neha Kakkar's songs. 😆

PS - Kakkar and Tulsi Kumar just ruin songs for me. Badshah is a hit or miss. But nowadays mostly a miss, his portion in that Pani Pani song is just pukeworthy. Super problematic.

Not sure, it may be the case but who knows. Pop psychology time. It is more likely that you are just getting older. Every generation, everyone will say the same till eternity if BW exists at all by that time. When the music will be made by AI, such criticism will be even stronger. Entertainment industry is going through massive changes and already has gone through some. Sensibilities of people also change from time to time. Unless you have some concrete evidence for how music is getting worse (I would definitely be interested in reading that), this seems to be all speculation and seductive nostalgia. When you can't explain it, first tendency is to bring in vague, inexplicable non-evidential concepts like soul is missing or X-factor is missing.

Bollywood music has been really underwhelming for a while and this is from someone who tends to keep up with the music trends. Maybe they should try hiring more music directors from the South.
